    Coin-For-Coin!

I got out for one last hunt before cramming the family in the dad-wagon and hitting the highway for the annual great American summer road trip. I am not taking my detector on vacation because I don’t want another divorce. Anyway, I met my digging partner early and we toon nearly 2 hours of back...

    Happy CTX-iversary!

The Acadia Valley is such a beautiful part of our state. I usually stay in Pilot Knob when I go down. Finds are getting hard to come by down there these days. I would have loved to have hunted it back when you all did. They say that there was so much grape shot dug up. I was going to take a...

    Civil war

They'll be red. Blue is usually a sign of iron.

    Happy CTX-iversary!

Good question! I just picked a name I liked that started with "C." My E-Trac was named Eleanor. When I first told my wife that I was taking Chloe out back when we were dating, I had some explaining to do. This!!! You are completely right. The best detector any person can use is one they know...

    Happy CTX-iversary!

Chloe, my CTX, arrived 9 years ago today thanks to my pre-order. During that time, she has been my detecting workhorse. She has found me over $3k in clad (I deposit all of my clad in my daughters' bank accounts), over a thousand silver coins, a dozen or so gold rings, pounds of silver jewelry...

    Civil war

Buttons can be all over the VID spectrum. I have dug them from 12-12 up to 12-28. My advice is dig all those low conductors and you will dig up the buttons that come under your coil. My relic pattern is mostly open with everything from FE 30 notched out. Yeah you dig foil and pull tabs, but you...

Anyone using a Coiltek coil on their CTX? Would like to know your opinion

Tony, I have the 10x5 for the CTX and I use it as my "small" coil. I used to have the Minelab 6" but sold it back in 2013. The "hockey puck" wasn't my swinging style. I use the Coiltek in heavy trash, and it has performed well for me in my dirt.

    CTX Gold

I could tell by how solid the tone was that it was less likely to be a pull tab or can slaw. Notice that when you pass over pull tabs/slaw your tone warbles a bit (more noticeable when you are using 50 tone CO) and your VID will jump by a few value points. I suspect this is because of the holes...

Best find to auction Getting CTX 3030 - Advise on accessories?

My 2-cents worth. Definitely get the 17" coil. I use it more than any other coil, even in moderate trash in parks. It helps you net more sweep area per swing. Also, a harness of some kind is a must. I have had the CTX since May 2012 and it has cost me my right elbow (tennis elbow) and my right...

    Flying Eagle!

Congrats! I have only found one, and it peeled like yours did too.

    CTX Gold

Thanks! And you are absolutely right about the low conductors. I found several other "low conductors" that hunt too including a V nickel, a gold-plated cufflink, and a gold-plated horse charm from a necklace. My digging partner with his CTX found a V nickel and a .36 Civil War pistol ball, both...

    CTX Gold

Last Sunday I went detecting at an old park that had been well-hit since the 1970's. My first dig of the day was a solid 12-18 signal on my CTX. Normally, this would be a hard pass for me in a park because experience has taught me that such signals are almost always pull tabs or can slaw...

Having fun playing with my new/used CTX

Awesome, welcome to the CTX club! I came to the CTX from the E-Trac as well. The hardest thing for me to learn was to not dig "iffy" iron signals. Whereas with the E-Trac, iffy iron signals would sometimes turn out to be deep silver, they have always been rusty iron with the CTX.

Is the CTX still a viable detector?

Yes (simple answer). Long answer: I have had my CTX since it debuted on Memorial Day 2012 and it has been with me through thick and thin, brush and dirt, water, mud, snow, and everything in between. It is the best coin machine I have ever owned, and pretty good at relics too. If she ever dies...

    17" coil....yea or nay?

For sure. Mainly for coverage, the gain in death is not noticeable. I would say where you dig out in the middle of nowhere, you will benefit from The increased coverage. Be sure to wear your harness. I tore my elbow up not wearing a harness soon enough.

Any day out digging beats any day at work. You'll hit it next time.

Minelab Equinox 800 and XP Deus Tag team Hunt Yields Civil War Relics !

I like the bear head button. Is that pre-war?

    Bullet ID?

I'd say that's a good assumption. It has the look of a Colt pistol bullet.

    The French Connection

Thanks. I hear they find them out east. we find the high bass variety here in the Trans-Mississippi, and sporadically at that.

    The French Connection

This hunt was a while back, but I never got around to posting pictures. My partner and I were researching possible locations for a Fremont-era early war Yankee camp in the area and we had a pretty decent location pegged. We got boots on the ground and started sweeping the best looking terrain of...
