General metal detecting question regarding floods

Hi, Research has led me to several areas that should be pretty good for detecting, but I recently learned that they had been flooded two feet deep way back about 70 years ago. My guess would be that flooding pretty much ruins the prospects for detecting because either all kinds of silt and mud...

    RNB Battery question

Hi, Got one of these last week and so far after at least 3 hours every day it still shows 3/4 charge! One of the best accessories you can get, I think. Question: Should I let it drain all the way out before recharging it, should I just recharge it whenever I have time, or does it matter...

    small, medium, or large?

Hello, On an old site with deep coins (wheaties, mostly, but some nice silver, too) and lots of trash, especially rusty nails: 1--Use a small coil; it will separate the coins from the trash. Maybe not as deep, but the separation will be worth the loss of depth 2--Use the detector's stock...

Is higher always better, if it's stable?

Hi, Just wondering...since White's worked on my detector it's remarkably stable at high Rx Gain numbers. For example, I can run Hi-Pro at 14. My question is, should I? Is there any reason or advantage to using lower gains when higher ones are available? Thanks, Mike

V3I Getting noisy Seems Like a Problem

Hey, Hunt4Fun, Thanks for the article. I'll download it and print up a copy to keep in my rig. I appreciate that you went to the effort to help me. Mike

V3I Getting noisy Seems Like a Problem

How about a basic review of what to do first, second, third, fourth when dealing with EMI? I'm aware of Frequency Offset, but there are times that doesn't seem to make any difference. If that fails, what else should be tried? Thanks.

Ok, now I'm getting what I should!

To catch people up, I posted earlier that I was not happy with depth and that I was getting outhunted by some of my buddies who don't have Whites detectors. What I did about it--took my detector to Whites and sure enough, they found some problems. I had been doing "OK", but just not keeping up...

The constant struggle for more depth...what do I do?

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Monday's hunt went better when I switched to the HI-pro program and found that the soil I was working over was clean enough that I could turn up the gain and even use transmit boost. Suddenly I was seeing 2-3 inches deeper. That program does use a...

The constant struggle for more depth...what do I do?

Hi, It's been several outings since White's re-did my whole detector, correcting a coil problem and replacing most of the "innards" in the box as well. Yesterday's trip has caused me to scratch my head a bit. I was on a vacant lot (with permission) and the first thing I found was a 1959...

    Test garden problems/question

First time out I visited an older home near the campus of the University of Oregon, and after getting permission to detect there, it seems everything went fine. Plenty of coins (at homes near campus, at least every other hit is a bottle cap!) but sorry to say nothing old. Lots of copper cents...

    Test garden problems/question

First of all, let me say I got the same fantastic customer service from White's as always, even though it was Mary's birthday (Happy Birthday Mary!) and she was out from her reception post. I hope she had a great day! However, the rest of the crew was right there ready, willing, and able to...

    Test garden problems/question

Everyone, Thanks for responding. I don't think I should have to start changing programs and settings in order to find a silver dime at 4 inches. That's the least an expensive detector ought to be able to do with a stock C and J program. I'm going to try a couple of different coils Monday...

    Test garden problems/question

Hey, everybody, In 2009 I planted a Merc dime in my back yard about 4 to 4 1/2 inches down in typical (for western Oregon) backyard grass/soil. I know it's still there because I can locate it with the pinpoint mode of the V3i. I used to be able to find this coin consistently with my XLT...

Saw the Flashing Sun Ray ad, have question

Hi, Does anyone know if the Sun Ray in-line probe for the V3i works with the wireless headphones? Just about all my friends use them and like them but they don't have V3i's so I don't know if the experience would be any different. Thanks, Mike

Back after 18 month absence--question about hunting for gold

I'm in Oregon and where I'm going is evidently something I will not know until the person who's taking me tells me to get out of the car. We are supposedly looking for gold where gold has been found--tiny little pieces of raw gold, I guess. I don't know how small the V3i will "see" gold. I've...

New V3i ....complicated but I am just starting

I've had mine since they first came out and I'm about convinced it's too much detector for me. However, I really like the wireless headphones, the three frequency and three color readout, and White's incredible customer service, so I probably will not change. I'm not dumb, but when it comes to...

Back after 18 month absence--question about hunting for gold

I do have a smaller coil--but did not know that was going to help for gold. I'm totally new at gold-hunting and could use any advice at all. Thanks, Mike

Back after 18 month absence--question about hunting for gold

Hi, everyone, The docs have given me the ok to return to detecting after a year and a half away due to a bum shoulder and the surgery that came after. Seems I had arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis and more all in that shoulder, but it feels pretty good now after the surgery and physical therapy...
