    Coil calibration?

I own the Golden uMax and would like to get a wide scan, I am thinking about that 7 in coil. Is is really necessary to send the machine in with the coil to calibrate it? I just don't want to give up the machine for a few weeks if it is not really worth it.

First Gold... And a diamond too!

It's very thin, only 10 K, and bent up a bit. Fairly sure the stone is a diamond but will have a jeweler I know take a look at it. Found it by a basketball court, in the mulch under a big old tree. I had the Golden uMax set to make that mixed quack-like sound on nickels, got a hit with this...

Had a little heart stopper today...

Got to some time out today at a local playground, and one of the first by a basketball court turned out to be a small gold ring with three small diamonds... Well got home, cleaned it up and read the lettering inside the band... 18 kt. H.G.E. You know what that means.... Junk! Oh well, better...

Is the Golden uMax all analog? Other thoughts too...

So I was reading Chris's "Mastering the Tesoro Tejon and Vaquero" e-book for any Tesoro owner'" and he was talking about the differences between digital and analog machines. He seemed to indicate that machines with multiple tones use some digital processing of the analog signal, and I was...

Out with the Golden uMax, having trouble finding nickels

OSo I went out today with my new Golden uMax, searching around a High school practice football field. This is my third time out with it, I have found lots of clad, over $3 today, mostly quarters and another $3 from the two previous hunts. All mostly quarters, a few dimes and a couple of...

First time out with golden IMAX

We'll I was finally able to take the golden IMAX out for the first time today. Only had about two hours at a school. Found $2.23, with one wheat cent. Some of the junk did fool me, I dug up one steel bottle cap but is was deep and pretty corroded. Found two beaver tails that sounded with the...

If Tesoro asked me to design a new machine...

OK, let me first say... this is just for fun, no offence intended... at all. Certainly, after Cazador comes out there will be others. In recent posts, some people have said that Tesoro needs to develop new technology in order to compete, well I don't think so. I think that Tesoro has created...

What is the best wide scan for Golden uMax?

I was hoping to get some advice on the best wide-scan (DD) coil choice for the Golden uMax (old tones). I want something that will help in bad soil, separate out trash better, but will not change or distort how the machine's tones discriminate (in other words, what comes closest to the settings...

dust/rain cover for umax style tesoros?

So I was wondering what people use to protect their Tesoro umax style machines from dust and misty rain? I see some pics of Tesoro brand covers, some with the clear plastic facing and others without that, and I see third party supplier covers as well. Does Tesoro make a snug cover without the...

    Beep and dig vs. Tones/TID

I have been thinking about putting up this post for awhile now, but wanted to read through some of the scattered comments about this comparison first, to get some background. My first detector was a one-tone machine. It was pretty good for its day (BH 840). I do remember digging a lot of...

Was thinking about some coils for my new GU, but then...

So, I just bought a new (old tones) GUmax and I have not even been out with it yet (cold, snow and ice, burr), and in this long winter wait, was thinking about the additional coils I would like to get. As it turns out, I like ALL the coils that come with the 3-coil Outlaw package, and with...

    Gold and the Golden uMax

Found this on the forum, the poster was not sure if it was for a Vaquero or a Cibola. Was wondering how close it would be for the Golden uMax?

    Which would you choose?...

Its snowing hard here in the Ohio Valley, and cold too. So, I thought I would pick the brains of you Tesoro experts about the Golden uMax. So which one would you choose if both choices were available: 1) A brand new (from a dealer) Old Tone Golden uMax, with the Lifetime warranty or... 2)...

Wish I bought a Compadre (instead of Ace 150)

Last year I bought my daughter an ACE 150 for Christmas, but after reading and hearing everything on the forum about the Compadre (at a comparable price tag) I wish I had known about the Tesoro. Does any body know a a repudable dealers who would consider the 150 on a trade (plus the difference...

Choosing a new detector and some ideas for a new model

Looking for some help in deciding on a detector. Have spent quite a lot of time researching various brands and watching YouTube vids and am leaning towards a Tesoro. I was thinking about the AT Pro or the F5 for a long time but I like the "nobs" and the fine tuning adjustments that analog...
