GPXs: how to identify bad targets without digging them all.

A couple of us with GPX's (one 4500 and one 5000) have made a couple of observations that we believe are true, but I would like to confirm these with other experienced operators: 1. The way we use our Ground Balance with Double D coils in trashy areas with lots of small nails and pieces of...

    Mono coil in Northern Virginia?

I have a 4500 GPX and wonder if the soil on Cole's mountain, etc, is too hot for a mono coil to work well? If you use a mono coil on any GPX, which mono coil do you prefer? I'm using the Platypus right now, and it's a DD (waterproof). It works well, but the greater the depth, the more likely I...

    MXT vs. MXT PRO Comparison

My MXT PRO is enroute to me. I used an MXT almost exclusively for 2 full years, and as a backup machine after that, so I am very familiar with how good the MXTs are. For those of you who have already owned an MXT: Please compare your experience between the MXT and the MXT PRO thus far. I...

waterproofing of TDI coil vs Jimmy coil?

    (1) I wonder which, if either, TDI coil is really waterproof enough to submerge. Several guys who have posted on the internet reported several of the factory TDI coils to have failed when used in or around water. Factory literature might indicate it is waterproof, but the standard coil has...

waterproofing of TDI coil vs Jimmy coil?

I wonder which, if either, coil is really waterproof. Several guys who have posted on the internet reported several of the factory TDI coils to have failed when used in or around water. I would like to know from someone who has used the Jimmy Sierra "Jimmy" coil in wet conditions (for the...

"REED" object found on battlefield at Vicksburg, MS

Steve and others: I did not remember this site existed for identifying objects, so I posted earlier on the E-Trac site. Sorry 'bout that. If it's okay, I'll ask you and the viewers to help try to identify an object found by Jeff, my hunting buddy. The photos aren't great, but they do show the...

    Whazit? "REED" cast iron

This thing is about 2.25" across the base, 2.5" high, and has an "X" in the circular arch, a "D" at the bottom of the arch on the right side, and the word "REED" at the bottom of the arch on the left side. You can clearly make out the month "JUNE" but the numbers to the right of JUNE are hard...

World War I or II uniform device?

I found this at a 19th century housesite which was occupied through the early 1960s. The rear mounting device is offcenter (broken before I found it), and abeing an old soldier I can't remember a reason for the rear mount to be offset. Can you identify this American symbol? I believe it to be...

    Boring Clad?

In a short hunt yesterday, my Etrac found this clad coin. Have any of you found something similar, with gold plating? Must have been part of a necklace or something? Anyway, this is my first DOLLAR coin to find. The target read 1/48 on the ET. It must have been as deep as perhaps a half...

Best overall water detector for jewelry?

I came to the nonmanufacturer specific site to find out from you waterhunters WHICH water detector is best for both saltwater and freshwater jewelry hunting. Don't factor-in any usage on land, please. I already have a bunch of land machines, including the best VLF machines. Overall best would...

Which depths are best to hunt ocean?

I am on the Gulf in Destin, FL, not finding much with two great machines-no jewelry! Water's edge, dry sand, knee deep, waist deep, or where is most productive for you guys who actually find rings and things? Thanks!

    Projected price of Vision?

I presume this will be a high-priced machine, around $1,200-1,500 retail, selling for a couple of hundred bucks less by reputable dealers. Larry/Carl, has White's given any indication of the approximate retail price range of the Vision?

Silver finds in the last month

I have had the E-Trac for a full month now, and have found more silver already this year than I found in the past two years. Nothing earthshaking, but a lot more silver than in the past. The etrac is a real guided missile when it comes to nickels and silver. Happy Hunting!

    First week with E-trac

Besides all the clad and cents found in the first week, the pics show my recent finds of 3 silver coins-more than I found all of last year-including two WWII nickels ('43 and '45) and a 192? mercury dime. This past week I also found six wheaties, two LA tax tokens, a common 1 mil and the less...

    E-trac or Explorer SE Pro?

That may be the question for new buyers or old SE owners. I had my SE for a while but didn't like the multi looney tunes, and also had a hard time pinpointing. It was difficult for me to identify targets before I dug them. So I traded with the Backwoods vendor and now am very happy with the...

    Troy Shadow X5

Some of you guys have experience with the X5 over a number of years. What do you think of it? As I said in another post, a friend of mine has one and he can find more good stuff quicker with his X5 than anyone else in our club. He doesn't need an ID meter, but listens to the beeps and uses...

listening to the MXT instead of just looking at target I.D.

These are some observations which I have made, and wonder if anyone else has also made these observations, or whether I am wrong. Please feel free to disagree about this. I find that my MXT in stable max output (+3) with the stock 9.5" coil will find quarters and silver dimes in my old test...

Newbie questions about Explorer SE Pro

I have discovered in my 2 year old test garden that my SE Pro will accurately depict (smartfind) clad quarter and silver dimes up to 7 or 8", respectively, displaying the pictograph in the upper Right corner. After that, the target window reflects its image in the upper LEFT corner of the...

    SE Pro settings

I saw a post on this forum where someone suggested that he had set the tone variability to 4, and that it had quieted down his machine. I tried this setting with the "sounds" set in conductivity and found that the signals seemed to be easier to understand for me (a novice with minelab, but a 30+...

    Explorer SE learning curve

I am able to use this machine, but it is HARD to learn it. I do much better with all the simple detectors in my closet: DFX, MXT, CZ20 and Nautilus IIBa. I don't know why it is so hard for me, but it IS. Reggie
