I decided to go back and hunt an old church site that I had hunted last year. From what I could find out - this church was built in the 1840's and was torn down in the 1920's.
There's tons of nails and other junk metal - so it's a pretty tough area to hunt. I only found one 1920 Wheat Cent the last time I was there - but this time I was going back better prepared ... this time I was using a 6" Excelerator Coil ( this coil's fantastic !) instead of the larger stock coil - I was also running in Two Tone Ferrous instead of Multi-Tones - and I've also logged a lot of hours hunting junkie sites over the past year. I also planned on using a much slower swing speed this time around - this should help me separate any good targets from the junk metal.
It worked ... in less than two hours I found five Indian Cents dated 1881 -1890 - 1892 - 1899 and 1901.
I also found an old Pin Back that has a heart shaped design on it - now that's what I call a really good day !
I still had about half hour before I had to leave - so I decided to hunt along the woods line and try to get away from all the junk metal - no luck - there's still a lot of metal here too - but a few swings later - a nice clear FE 12 - CO 39 hit in between the tree roots. Dug wide - it's silver and it a sure looks like Half Dime - but it doesn't say Half Dime on it like the 1857 I found last year - what the heck's going on ??? Then I read the date - 1837 !!! - now I start walking towards my truck (at a very high speed) to get my Coin Red Book.
WOW !!! - it's a 1837 Capped Bust Half Dime - my really good day just turned into a fantastic day !
Found the Mercury and Rosie Dimes and most of the Wheat Cent's at a friend of ours house that was built in the 1930's.
Found the Token and the other Wheat's along a section of old sidewalk.
From what I could find on the internet - this kind of brass Token - (about the same size as a Nickel) - was used in slot machines from the late 1800's to the mid 1900's.
Slot machine Token's typically had a series of numbers on the back (from two to five digits) and they didn't have business names on them.
