E-Trak Easy?? No its Not!!

I'm Sorry to say this but the E-Trak is not easy to learn,WAY overpriced, and will pull your arm off after 3 -4 hrs detecting..Sorry Minelab but I'm selling the E-Trak and will not get FOOLED AGAIN

I agree, sale the thing so I'll have less competition this year

Yes do so and give me a discount. How much..

This is the perfect example why we have Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Toyota, Nissan pickup trucks. Compact, Midsize, Fullsize, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton etc. etc. etc. etc. 4cyl, V6, V8, V10, Gas, Diesel.

The point. Purchase accordingly as to where you want to go and what you want to haul.

Minelab should just stop making the E-Trac now that we all have ours. I want my next machine to sing out loud and clear any time I am within 50yds of gold or silver. Humm, 20 years from now when I am getting old would be good timing. Terry, 60, San Diego:crazy:

Is the E-Trac the first Minelab Detector you have Used?
What where you using prior to the purchase of the E-Trac?
Did you do any research of the E-Trac prior to Purchase , or just Jump right in?
Have you asked for help on this or any other Forum about the E-TRAC?
Have you checked the Prices of the other brands of their top line machines?
How much time have you spent trying to learn the Machine?
Do you have the Andy Sabisch Book Mastering the SE & E-trac?

If none of the above questions fit the situation for you.

Suggestion: Sell or Trade the E-Trac.
But Do not Bash a Top Line Machine just because it don't tell you what to, do or dig the finds for you.
The E-Trac will do it's part if you are willing to learn how to do (Your) part.

Good Luck with What-Ever Detector you chose to learn how to use.

Try to find someone in your area to mentor you on the machine for awhile. Trust me I have owned probably 50 different machines over the years and the Etrac is all that. You won't find a better or deeper machine.

Waterbird, I went back and read all of your posts on this forum and came to the conclusion that you are new to the hobby. I remember when I got my first decent detector 15 years ago and was sure it was junk and did not perform like advertised. I sent it back to the factory and they found nothing wrong. When I realized that the detector was OK, I got determined to learn to use it. The summer I had with that detector was my greatest coin count ever. Leave the Etrac in the factory coin mode and don't touch a thing. Plant a couple of coins in the ground and learn how to pinpoint with the most excellent pro coil. After doing both of these things, go to your local park and with a very slow sweep, start finding coins and deep coins. I have never used a detector that can be turned on in a preset mode and a green rookie can make finds that a twenty year veteran would be proud of. If you give up on this detector, you will be selling the best coin detector ever made. Get determined and learn it. It really is simple. R.L.

Why is everyone trying to change his mind?

Waterbird, you hate it so much, I'll buy it off you cheap. I'll even trade you a Tesoro Compadre. You can't get any lighter or simpler than that machine. Send me a PM, and I'll send you the money to get it off your hands.

Those are some pretty critical statements and I don't agree with them at all, the E-Trac just produced my BEST YEAR EVER metal detecting. Not sure what basis you have for your judgement. It would be helpful to know if you bought the detector from a local dealer who showed you how it works and how to use it. How many hours have you put on the unit? How long have you been detecting. Have you asked for help? Have you taken the time to read and UNDERSTAND the manual? Did you get Andy's book and read and understand that as well?

The E-Trac is certainly much easier to learn and master than the White's XLT, MXT, DFX, V3, in my opinion. The E-Trac has fewer adhjustments to make, but it seems easier to understand what all of those adjustments actually do and how they change the performance of the detector.

If you had done any research before purchasing or asked questions you would know the E-Trac is not a lightweight unit. If this was something important to you, then you should have done your research BEFORE buying the detector. Anyone who is concerned about detector weight needs to FIRST make sure the rod is adjusted to the right length for your height and use proper swing technique. If that doesn't make it better, there are several straps that you can buy to help redistribute the weight. Lastly, it may just be too heavy, in which case I highly recommend the X-Terra series which are very light and the Garrett Ace 250.

You'll see you have no trouble selling the E-Trac as it is a hot machine and much in demand, especially clean used units. That alone speaks to me about how good the machine is. If the market for the machine used is hot, and you can get near what you paid for it, that usually means it is a good machine.

Any detector takes time to learn, if you think otherwise, then you did not get fooled, but there is some foolishness involved on your part.

I hope that if you consider another detector purchase, you visit a multi-line dealer in person who can fit the right detector to you and show you how to adjust and use it properly.

set it in ferrous sounds and two tones. Then there is a low tone for iron and a high tone for everything else. Set it fast:eek:n deep:eek:n; auto+3 or lower if needed.

Take some change and bullets or whatever you hunt and learn where the conductive numbers hit, dig anything that hits those conductive numbers... if the ferrous number is between 8 and 16.

That is a place to start, then as you learn it better, try more tones and different settings. Using ferrous sounds and two tones will eliminate most falsing. I hunt in a slightly enlarged relic pattern but the regular relic pattern will do just fine. I use it because I like to hear all the iron too. You may hear a little blip of high tone in the iron, if you can get it to repeat, even from one direction and the conductive number is correct... dig it, it is likely something all the other detectors miss.

Keep it simple at first with the two tones. Think of it as a more substantial F75. If the weight is bothering you, you probably have the shaft too long. Tweak the lenght often to be able to hunt longer with more comfort. Make it shorter when going uphill and longer when going downhill. The minute it begins to feel uncomfortable... adjust the length of the shaft, usually make it a little shorter.

Also... if you call it an E-TRAC it may work better for you... mine does not like being called an E-TRAK.

Most important... the conductive number does not lie, even if the target is really deep... unless the ferrous number is too high, then it's probably iron. Get out and dig until you learn. It took me a good year to begin to get comfortable with my Explorer SE, it took a few weeks with the T2, the Tejon was no problem and neither was the SovereignGT, however I don't think anyone ever stops learning about their detector.. especially one like the GT or the Tejon. The ET is probably the easiest detector I have ever had. Currently I use it and a V3. I use the V3 when I want to fool around with and learn a detector. I use the ET when I just want to make finds. I like finding coins and relics but I also enjoy learning to use a machine, that's why I am using both right now. When I got my SE I was doing very well with an F75. At that time I was hunting almost every day. I would spend an hour or two with the SE... not finding much, get frustrated and get out the F75 and immediately begin to make good finds in the same area I hunted with the Explorer. Now... there was nothing wrong with the Explorer, I just didn't understand it and I was hunting in conductive sounds and multi-tones. I fninally switched to Ferrous sounds and multi-tones and it began to make sense. However, I do not like ferrous/multi on the ET... I like ferrous/2tone.

Try making it a bit more simple and remember to tweak the shaft every twn minutes or so... all you have to do is lift the camlock and adjust the length.. it takes all of 5 seconds and makes a huge difference if it begins to bother you.

HH,

J
