E-Trak Easy?? No its Not!!

A bad workman blames his tools!
Instead of a statement like that, why didn't you just ask help? It's taken me over a year to finally get my ETrac settings right for me.
It now runs stable, fast, deep and good targets are unmissable.
I would of been more than happy to share them with you if you'd have asked for help.

Gaz.

I wouldn't trade my E-trac for any other detector on the market. I think you just need to take time to learn about the detector and what its telling you. Andy Sabisch's book "The Minelab Explorer & E-trac Handbook" does an excellent job of explaining all the features of the E-trac. It helped me to understand the detector. I encourage you to learn the detector. But if you are dead set on getting rid of it, then so be it. Best of luck to you.

Waterbird, I would like to offer a few words of encouragement before you give up on one of the best detectors made to date. My arm gets tired too, especially when I am out for an extended period of time. You might need to slow down your swing, I found that it helps my arm and improves my chances of a good find. You might also want to try a smaller coil, they are lighter. Try to find someone who is more experience than you to show you the ropes. There are a ton of good videos on You-Tube about metal detecting.

Also keep this in mind, if it were easy there would not be any thing to find, it would all be found. I started with a Minelab X-Terra 70, that was a featherweight compared to the E-Trac. I also found my first gold on my 2nd day with the E-Trac. If you still don't like the E-Trac I am sure you won't have any trouble selling it, don't let it go too cheap!

This forum along with Andy's book is a great place for help, just ask. Iam willing to bet that as soon as you make a nice find, you will be sold on the E-Trac.

To all you guy's who gave Waterbird word's of encourgment and helping him with his machine good for you and don't stop. Help the next guy also. The rest of the smart "A--" should really clam up. Instead of wasting everyone's time with stupid and inconsiderate remark's maybe you should offer some help. Good luck waterbird I hope you figure it out and you find a whole lot of good stuff.
Good luck Gary

In case of any confusion to my Post I did not mean to come across as a "Smart A". If anyone thinks so, I am man enough to apologize.

Waterbird, you have a great machine that is easy to use and will find you lots of goodies if you give it a chance. Maybe you have given it a chance and it's just not for you. Like my earlier Post, that is why we have different brands of vehicles. It depends on what you want to do with it, where you want to go with and what you expect from it. And the main thing now days is how much money you want to spend on it. Same goes for anything else you spend your hard earned money for. In this case it happens to be your metal detector.

You will have no problem selling the machine if your that dissatisfied. The main thing is that your happy, comfortable and confident in whatever machine your using. There are many people on the forum that will be more than willing to help you with any problems your having in the field.
I don't think Minelab or anyone else tricked you or fooled you into purchasing the machine. If you payed 1,500 dollars for an E-Trac and was sent a 50 dollar toy machine I could see your point.
Point, don't degrade something that has tons of excellent reviews and finds to back it up. If you need help this is the place to get it, all you have to do is ask.

BCOOP

you ether love it or hate it.
my first 2 months with it i hated it. the wife had to stop me from throwing it out the car window one day.
glad i didnt now cause i stayed on it and fell in love with it.
i think my problem was the fact that i was a fisher man and handnt used another detector in over 10 years.
well which way you go on it is up to you.
good luck to you and have fun with whatever you like.

You know what? Everyone has equal right to "speak" whether YOU like thier comments or not. When you restrict comments to nothing more than "good for you", then the truth gets left behind.

Ok, ok... let's end this part of the discussion here, ok? Please?
Let's stay on topic here... E-Trac!

I think it speaks well of the dirt fishers who tried to give Waterbird advice and encouragement.

But after Waterbird's initial rant, I sure can't blame those who were inclined to be less than supportive.

If someone is having a problem learning a detector or struggling with anything on this forum or any of the Findmall forums, there never seems to be a shortage of friendly and knowledgeable users who take the time to share information and do whatever they can to help.

But some people just don't click with certain detectors. Waterbird obviously needs a light detector with a short learning curve. There are many lighter detectors with a shorter learning curve than the E-Trac that would be more suited to his needs.

As the old saying goes: you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink...

I'm Sorry to say this but the E-Trak is not easy to learn,WAY overpriced, and will pull your arm off after 3 -4 hrs detecting..Sorry Minelab but I'm selling the E-Trak and will not get FOOLED AGAIN

I really think this is one of those threads that get started to see how many of us reply! Ok, I'll bite!

Yep, it is very pricey as far as detectors go I will admit. And no doubt about it, one does need to spend time learning how to use in different situations. Although you can also just turn it on, put it in coin mode and voila easy to learn detector that finds lots and lots of coins! As for the weight, well I usually pull out some goodies everytime I hunt so the weight does not seem to bother me for some reason!

Ok, I give! Just add me to the list of those who have been fooled by Minelab, and will probably be fooled again when the upgrade to the E-Trac comes out! :clapping:

Maybe Waterbird is in a new person to detecting and the E-Trac is over his head.

The E-Trac is a great unit, but its not so great to someone that don't under stand it.
There is so much help here.
To me, I liked the big manual that came with the Explorer ll...
I don't think Andy's book would help him..
I think he just needs to stick with a ACE 250.
I think someone will get a good deal on a E-Trac.

BJ, I agree with you that the "E-Trak" is over Waterbird's head.

And I've heard that the Ace 250 is a great inexpensive detector.

But for someone like Waterbird, I think the Tesoro Compadre would be the perfect choice.

A fine little detector that's easy. When someone gives me permission to detect their property, I always offer the Compadre if they want to detect with me. Anyone who has never detected can use it successfully.

One knob that controls on and off as well as discrimination.

It's not real deep - but it can get 5 inches, maybe 6 if conditions are right.

And a small 5.75 coil so Waterbird won't get confused with too many targets under the coil.

And it's light - only about 2 lbs. So Waterbird won't strain the wing like he did swinging that E-Trac...

I still say, someone will get a good deal on his E-Trac...

silver from the ground. I have compared this detector to many other including the f75 ltd and it has done better identifying coins and other itmes before they are dug. also have found more silver this last year than in a long time. I got 3 walking liberty halves from places that have been hunted very hard which makes me think the ET has the edge on most other detectors if not all!..This of course is in my ground. (love that one)
