Made a short road trip with RayMo for what will probably be the last trip of 2010 for me. But, what a way to end it
Detecting in a town that neither of us has ever hunted in with no really good prospects, I was not too excited and did not even bring my video camera. By the time I got there, Ray had already scouted out what looked like the best possibility and already had a few good finds, so we hit it hard for the next few hours.
My totals for the day were 5 wheats, 3 Mercury dimes, and 1 seated dime. That was my first seated in 2 years, so I was stoked!!!
I have to thank Michelob (aka Cousin Mike) for the seated though. He texted me from Minnesota while I was detecting (we do this sort of thing all the time) and told me to go 20 feet to my left of where I was and I would find a silver Washing quarter in the trash area so go slow. I thought to myself , well OK, lets try it. BUT, I walk 20ft to my left and there is a picnic table in the way. Now, I am short, but not short enough to detect under the table, so I decided to move the darn thing which seemed like a good idea since I did find stuff around it earlier.
After trying with 1 arm, way too heavy, so I really put some muscle into it with 2 arms
and slid that thing enough to detect there. By the third swing I heard a nice higher tone in the trash so I worked on isolating it. Got it to come in at a nice 12-43 reading at about 6 to 7 inches deep so I figured well at least I can tell him I got a nice wheatie instead of a silver quarter.
Dug it up and was extremely surprised to see a silver disc in my plug pile. The first side I saw was the back side and thought, WOW, a worn Barber dime ( I was super excited even for that) but almost fell over when I turned it over and saw that the lady was sitting down
I was even more excited to see the date of 1862 which makes it my second oldest seated ever.
Not sure how that dime got there since everything else in that area was from the 1940's at that depth but I will take it. I think God was smiling down on me, letting me end 2010 in style
Here are the pics from the day
and the Seated close up
