Equinox and hearing aids pairing

After working in the oil fields when a kid, flying in P5Ms in the Navy, then working in the Potash mines for a few years in New Mexico with all the blasting we did, then wearing a headset as an air traffic controller for 15 years (retired with 35 years FAA), my ears have considerable low freq loss and I strain to understand conversations. I thought my wife of 55 years was correct and I just didnt listen. Today I get hearing aids, supposedly 'blue tooth' capable and I am going to attempt to 'pair' them with the 800. If that works well, it will be fantastic for me. I know they will pair with an Iphone, but not so sure about the detector. There is a small optional device, like a small WM-08 or 10, that supposedly allows one to stream stuff, like a tv, so I will see if that is what is needed.

Anyone else tried to 'pair' a hearing aid with a wireless detector?

A little off the subject. But when you get those hearing aids you will hear stuff that you have not heard in years. It will take a while to get accustomed to all the noise that you havent not been hearing. When I first started wearing aids I really had a problem with all the noise and the high pitched sounds that I had not been hearing. Some folks try them and cant stand hearing the noise and quit wearing them. Give your brain tie to grow accustomed to the noise.

This is interesting. I am wearing hearing aids in both ears for two years now.
I’ll have to look into this one. I just got the NOX with that module - I’ll read up on that in the manual and see if it helps.

Say you meet someone while detecting at the beach. You would have to shut the detector off to hear them. I would think it better to just use the headphones.

I was successful at pairing my Widex hearing aids with the NOX today. I had to connect the COM-DEX link that I bought with the hearing aids (I use them to hear my cell phone in a car without bluetooth).

Sounds were different then with headphones for me. That must be part of hearing loss but the targets I tested came in very clear.

I was able to talk to my wife while I had the machine/hearing aids connected and her voice came through better than with headphones on.

Best of luck to all.

I just posted that my hearing aids worked ok with the Equinox and my hearing aids will work normally when folks are talking to me.
I might have to stop detecting and listen to them but I wouldn't have to shut the detector off.

I understand your point at the beach with crowd/waves/wind noise added to detecting noise. I'll have to give it a try.

If I go into the water I probably will use the waterproof headphones and leave the hearing aids in car. Just in case - hearing aids are not water proof.

I would recommend anyone using BTE (Behind the Ear) hearing aids and wanting to use them when in the water ... DON"T ...
The first time I went into the water, I never gave the aids a bit of thought. All worked well until I started to come out of the water and took my headphones off my head. The headphones caught one of the aids and pulled it off the ear. It was hanging, only held in place by the speaker bud. Had it hit the ocean, I may not have found it and if I did find it, it would probable be toast as mine are NOT waterproof, splash-proof, but not waterproof. Then I thought what would happen if I took on a rouge wave, at the price of the aids and my insurance does not cover them, they will stay in the car while I detect in the water.

Interesting about connecting them to the detector, I'll have to try it. My aids are BT-enabled, but the function is not turned on as I did not have the newer OS on my cell phone that was needed to run the BT App. New Cell phone arrives Thursday. You can bet I will be at the hearing aid store on Friday getting the new function set up on the aids. Thanks for the tip.

WaterWalker, your 100% right they are not water proof, I would’t recommend that to anyone.
Dry sand would be ok but still you are tempted to go into wet sand and accidents can/will happen.

Let us know if the sound is different then what you are used too now.

Hey Everybody. My wife is a Hearing Aid dispenser. We have the box you use for the TV and it is wonderful but is 110v. At work now but will ask her tonight to see if there is a portable one that would work with the detector. I know she has an iPhone that goes through her aids. Grumpy

I have SSD and some loss in the other ear. Using Phonax hearing aids, but always leave them in the car when on the beach. No insurance and they are expensive. Think I read somewhere that if you pair the hearing aids with the machine, then the headphones will not work. Not sure.

Grumpydiver, the key word is blue tooth.

My iPhone connects to my hearing aids when I turn on blue tooth under settings then the link connects the two.

GeorgeinSC, yeah I understand that one big time.

The toughest part of hearing that I needed hearing aids was psychological, man was I hit hard with that realization.

And you are right it took a very long time to get used to them.

As to cost, I got mine at Costco, two Resound Forte's for $2500, and my BCBS paid it all. There is also a free loss and damage replacement for 2 years on each of them. Not a plug for them but it was very reasonable in comparison with the retail prices out there.

Jas415,
Yes, that is a good deal.
I do buy the Costco batteries and they are a good bargain.

I am looking at the nuheara IQ boost ear buds. $500 and they do it all and best of all (for Equinox users) they are aptX low latency! Fully configurable with iphone or android app that does what the hearing specialist does to configure them. I just sent back a $4,400 pair of aids mostly because I was kept from adjusting the program and the tech would not do more than one setting for my tinnitus and I could do no adjusting beyond volume and program choice. I have not had a chance to test them but I really suggest a good look if you are considering anything like this.
