ETRAC CHALLENGE

message for grumpy old diver and nebtrac we are interested in your results so we will do our results and then repost about 28th march for another go for those who are snowed in still

Sugar,
Curiosity got the best of me so i put a zip lock (quart freezer ones work perfect) bag over the etrac, put on my hunting boots and jacket and went out in the rain, first six sound ONLY digs are as follows

1 memorial penny
2 memorial penny
3 half pull tab
4 memorial penny
5 Rosie clad dime
6 memorial penny

pretty kewl experiment, also found what i think may be part of a clock at like 17 inches man this etrac is no joke when it comes to depth, I've dug memorial mid 70's pennies at over 8" a lot!!! cant wait to hear what everyone else comes out with...

I went ahead and did mine today.
I ran in a coin program that I am starting to like. I got it out of the BOOK.
1. 1984 zincoln
2. Slaw
3. Smash bottle cap
4. 1975 rosie
5. 1976 rosie
I have been running 2tf and I caught myself looking down to verify my numbers, but I had my hat covering the display. Its weird how much I checked my screen. Didn't realize how much I look at it when I'm hunting...

thankyou for your list but were you running ttf or conductive i know you will have learnt something about yourself and the etrac in this experiment and that is what i am looking for

thankyou for taking part and for telling us you worked in 2tf and your experience as i have just explaines each of us will learn something more about your hunting with the etrac and everything you learn is a plus on the understanding so well done for completing the challenge both of you

ok you guys as you see we have had two very enthusiastic detectorists who have gone out and done the test early so here how it is supposed to work cover the id display you can leave your depth guage open if you wish work in the programe you believe will best suit the challenge and add it to your information when you post your finds we have a couple of detectorist who want to join in but are snowed in so we may get some late results as i have said before this is all about learning the etrac its another piece of the jigsaw any questions just ask because of the earlier posts you can also do the challenge when you wish and post up your finds thanks for all your help hope you have fun please add if you are a newbie i am not putting a time on this as some have had etracs but not been able to get out so anyone who has few hours just put newbie

Sugar,
Sorry buddy i used the standard coin program during the experiment then changed to TTF once i could look at the screen

well that is an interesting take on the challenge so you preferred to use conductive when you were faced with the challenge of no ids what tones did you dig for your finds what made you think it was worth digging and then youso switched to ttf when you had completed it i would be most intereted in your thoughts behind this as coin mode left you working in conductive which programe do you normally work in this is a wonderful discussion on peoples way of hunting i will post my finds now

ok well as you can all see two guys have gone ahead i really wanted this challenge towards the weekend as i have had a kettle of boiling water spill over my foot and as i have a large blister right where my boots fit i did not want to tramp around the field so really thought i should put you both on the naughty step lol anyway you forced me out and whooppppee i am so glad you did my find number five was the most stunning find i have ever dug so thankyou guys for your reckless attitude towards the challenge well do it our way comes to mind lol ok working in ttf i first cut ad lib a piece of paper about 2 x 3 inches to fit over screen much too big
had to go down to about 1 x 2 amply big enough sellotaped it across the plastic cover. finds were

1 thought it was a coin but now home and cleaned there is a tell tale circle on the back so now think its a button
2 aluminium johnnie walker whisky top
3 piece of lead
4 bronze end of buckle triangular good quality
5 the most amazing sort of cake slice spoon twisted handle with maybe one of wise men on top i will post a photo as it is breathtaking top of spoon 8 inches down and handle staight down in soil so bottom of spoon 18 inches down
6 another coin no detail but looks and clunks like george the 3rd

what i have learnt l i do look at the screen and each time i looked out of pure habit i had to smile as i couldnt see anything i had to work harder to determine what not to dig and the spoon was such a weak signal as only the end was up i nearly didnt dig it i will do it again as i think it sharpens your tactics and i will try not to look at the screen as i have prooved to my self that i dont need to i have interesting finds and was sure about five of them thankyou again guys for forcing me out or this wonderful relic would have stayed in the field for another hundred years by the way i am in the uk so our digging is a little different hope all the rest of you have a great time as i did happy hunting

I will give it a shot tomorrow if I am able to get out, going to an old school where TTF is all I will use because of the massive iron.

i used the provided coin program because i'd only had my ET for three days, i got it on Thursday and first hunt was Friday... I chose the coind program because the tones are similar to my Xterra 505 and thought i would have my best chances to dig coins without looking at the TDI :) .. the only non standard program i've learned is TTF so i wanted to play with that after the expirement. i would LOVE to hunt in the UK with my ET!!!

ok today I did the challenge...........
1. coin spill, 2 dimes and 2 memorial pennies
2. can slaw
3. pull tab
4, screw top aluminum
5. pencil top
6. pull tab

I was hunting in TTF

interesting in your opinion how many of these things would you have dug had you had your screen did you learn anything about hunting with the etrac
