2. 1944 wheat
3. Harley Davidson lighter case
4. 1913 wheat
5. 1942 wheat
6. 1950 wheat

Conclusion. Give me my meter any day.

wow thanks southwind i am impressed but what i want to know is often my meter reading is not showing the true id as it has locked onto a bigger iron target so although i can hear the noise i cant see its identity i have been digging them and nearly always get a good target so in this instance i am not relying on the meter but do you guys think generally we use the meter to determine and not the sound as i have always thought did you find yourself checking the meter and then realising it wasnt there were you in 2tf or conductive for the challenge thanks for your info

For me it's a matter of the sound determining if I look at the meter for a close more accurate identification. If the sound is right, AND, the meter tends to confirm what the sound is saying, then I recover and have very good odds it will be a good target.

iI HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GOOD TIME DOING THE CHALLENGE OVER THE WEEKEND HAPPY HUNTING GUYS AND NO PEEKING

Challenge complete... I set the Etrac in conductive sounds, multi tone, variable-max, limits max, auto +3 running @ around 27, fast- on, deep- off ... had the Etrac since its second month of release... results are from a park Ive never hunted before...
1st- 1994 zinc penny
2nd- corroded zinc penny
3rd- 1996 zinc penny
4th- 2007 zinc penny
5th- 2001 dime
6th- 1965 memorial cent

All within about 15 minutes on a volleyball court (sand) targets were all shallow (3-4")
I had a postit note stuck on my screen, and after I dug the target, wrote on the postit what it was...
Found some more clad after that and a few bits of aluminum, pulltabs, and a rusty screwcap... pretty fun for 1 1/2 hrs...

thanks for posting results ok have you always worked in conductive tones what does having variability at max do for you please are you one of those amazing detectorist that can tell from the sound what you are digging do you actually use your screen why do you think you did considerably better with your screen covered than you did afterwards when you had your screen ids its all very interesting thanks for your time

@ Sugar

Thanks for setting up this "challenge" it's a real treat LOL to see everyones results and hear their feedback on settings used and why. Very informative for all  I have always used conductive sounds w/variability @ max with the OCCASIONAL foray into 2TF. Its what I've gotten used to and along with a slight disc pattern provides me with the most info possible. Max variability allows for the most variation between target signals, therefore more info per target. I set the thresh pitch fairly low aswell (11-14) which changes the target response in multi tone...

I try to guess before I dig, sometimes I'm right but I do get fooled often enough. I go by sound primarily and use the screen/numbers for added confirmation. If I get a repeatable signal in disc but its "iffy" or jumping around I switch to quickmask/all metal. If the signal "cleans" up and fe #30's is predominant then I usually pass but if the fe #'s bounce into mid 20's or teens then I'm digging!

I use a modified pattern mostly that accepts down to 27 fe. This allows non fe objects to jump out of the iron trash and say "HERE I AM" case in point: I got a signal that was reading 25fe-46co on every sweep... I turned 90 deg and NULL... decided to dig and about 6" down was a decent looking 1916 barber dime w/a rusty blob right next to it. The coin still has rust stains on the leaf side. I didn't check the signal with 2TF but I'm almost certain I would have got a low tone (iron) and would not have dug it up. If I had been using the stock coin pattern, I would never have heard a tone at all.

Ok, I hope I answered your question  now here's the kicker :bouncy: I may have "cheated" a bit on the challenge, you decide... for the purpose of the challenge, I created a very tight disc pattern to insure that my 1st six targets were coins... I blacked the screen in QM, loaded that as my pattern, went to edit and accepted fe #'s 9 thru 15 only on conductive #'s 36 thru 47 (very tight) after I got my six coins, I took the postit note off the screen and went to a very open disc pattern only rejecting iron and some falsing (fe#1 line with the exception of co#40-47) in 1 1/2 hrs I dug 23 coins (including 1st 6) a piece of foil, 2 pieces aluminum scrap, and a rusty screwtop...

Sorry for so long of a post LOL

HH

youve really made me smile as that is what the etrac is about if we really want to target something in particular you can by putting in a tight pattern well thought out i am impressed you thought about the way to get a good advantage whilst not having a screen and your finds showed that it worked its not xheating lol as i said to use the program that you thought best suited the challenge well done

JUST A NOTE FOR YOU ALL MY SISTER HAS JUST JOINED THE FORUM HER NAME IS SADDLER AND SHE IS GOING OUT WITH THE ETRAC FOR HER FIRST TIME TOMORROW ON THE CHALLENGE THAT SHOULD BE INTERESTING LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING HER LIST HAPPY HUNTING DEBS

great video thanks lovely to see you digging silver up were you working in conductive or ferrous you said you wanted to get the screen cover off but you sure didnt do bad with it on lol well done did you have to listen more and did you learn anything i noticed you had depth guage covered so you were working almost blind how did that feel thanks for all information

I recently purchased the Etrac, but am not a stranger to it. Up until last July, I had owned one but decided to give the V3i a try and foundout that I truly missed the sounds and feel of the Etrac.

Saturday was my first time out swinging the "E" and it felt great. I ran the stock Coin pattern in conductive and didn't cover the depth meter. Here is what I found ding the challenge.

1) Strand of wire with a Roosevelt Dime
2) 2 Zinc Penny pocket spill
3) 3 Zinc Penny pocket spill
4)Rusty Crusty ?
5) Crumpler aluminum
6)Chrome Plated whatsit

I'm not classifying my self as a newbie, being that I had ran the Etrac before and being that I was accustomed to the Conductive Tones from previous use that was the reason I chose to run this way.

Great challenge Sugar

Ya had an excellent hunt there Slay.............WTG............Hawkeye Jim.

[attachment 190703 Image0012.jpg]Well, it was the first time out for me and my sister had warned me of tin cans, apart from one of the 6 iteims being silver foil from a very old cigrette packet i was pleased with my finds, we had thrown gloves and other things on sounds that i didnt want in my challenge and dug them up after , the good things have a very crisp sound , apart from the broach thing which my sister wouldnt have dug!!!, have i Won ???? lol

WELL DONE SIS I WAS VERY PROUD OF YOU TODAY NEVER EVEN HELD AN ETRAC BEFORE SO ALTHOUGH IT WAS SET UP FOR YOU I THINK YOU DID REALLY WELL IS ANYBODY GOING TO TELL HER THERE ARE NO WINNERS WHOOOOOOPS

ok guys we have a few results missing i think gurmpy and nebtrac will be hunting when weather is better so we will look forward to their other results not seen yet jack flyn. randy northridge ,jeepjc5 rich utah coolhandlouke, geodawn, kuletule if results are up then my apologies if not why not lol looking forward to your comments dont forget to put whether you were working 2tf or conductive please

it was very interesting watching a newbie tackle the challenge today i i must say with 2tf i feel she got a fair idea of what was worth digging so newbies i think that is a good way to go happy hunting

Hey Sugar. I was using conductive sounds, coin pattern, auto +3 sens., fast and deep off, difficult ground and multi tones. I hardly ever look at the depth gauge anyway because it's not very accurate. Once you pinpoint a target you can tell if it's deep or not.

The reason I wanted to see my screen is because I was passing nickel signals. They aren't as easy to distinguish as a good high tone at least to me. Thanks for having the challenge it was fun to try something different. HH

Thanks Slay!

Man! I'm pretty dense. I didn't realize your were Vidslayer! Guys. Slay was on of the top 3 from youtube to get me interested in the E-Trac and detecting in general. I always found his videos informative as well as entertaining. I will say this Slay. If you ever find yourself in central Nebraska with some time on your hands you let me know. I will treat you to a few places that have been good to me.

I've only hunted in Iowa twice. One was in Missouri Valley and the other was the big park in Atlantic Iowa.

Keep the videos coming my friend!
