Finally got back from Texas. Went down for winter. Its good to get back to detecting for old coins. Idetected the beach every day all winter, but I like hunting for old coins better. I did find 23 rings & 240 dollars in clad but what I found since I've been home pleases me more. The dollar was in a real trash area not far from where Ifound the other one last fall. All I got were little chirps but sounded real sweet & in both directions. It was really deep. I was so excited I didnt measure how deep it was but I'll bet it was down a foot. I found the 2 cent piece , dimes &nickels around where the old racetrack was. That is my 1st sheild nickel, can't read the date but thats ok. I'm done hunting there this spring, The owner planted it yesterday, but told me to come back this fall, & if I'm able I'll be there. The campaign coin was a neat find , I looked him up & he won he was sec of state from 1917 to 1929 of ILL. then Gov. till 1933. This is the best place I've ever found & I know there has to be a lot more good finds there. I'll bet Bryce would have a hayday there. I can only hunt a couple hours at a time and have to rest, but going to do it as long as I can.It has helped me so much mentally &helped with my health. Good luck & HH
Very nice finds stubbs1. That old fairground was pretty good to you and I bet you will be back soon. Too bad there aren't more old fairgrounds to find nice coins like that. I know what you mean about how detecting helps both mentally and physically. I went through bladder cancer last year and had neobladder surgery. Got me a new bladder made out of two feet of my colon and things are working pretty good and there is nothing better then to get out and swing a coil. Thanks for sharing your story and finds. HH.
