I have been metal detecting now for over a year. I am retired, so I hunt several hours a day 3-4 days a week. The town I live in was started in the 1880's. It has been very heavily detected. I have found several thousand clad coins, some rings, etc. I have found around ten wheat pennies, but no silver. I decided to concentrate in an old park where I found a wheat penny. I got a good 12-46 signal. I dug down 4-5 inches and there it was, my first silver. a 1945 Mercury dime.
Those of you who find wheat pennies and silver on a regular basis don't know how fortunate you are. Where I live, old coins have been very hard to find. Maybe now that I have one, I'll find some more.
I tried to upload a picture, but it is larger than 420 KB, and being computer handicaped, I don't know how to make it smaller.
