Found a negative Vaquero review

Calif_quake

New member
I found this review on line and it makes me feel a little uneasy because I will be picking up a vaquero soon. I want to know if anyone agrees with this review and findings and has the same experience. This makes me nervous to say the least. Now this guy is supposed to be in Canada and not sure that makes a difference but I am very concerned on what he has to say on operation and performance. This is also the first time I read anything negative about this company.

"Received my Vaquero only to find out after multiple air tests that something was wrong with it (could not sense anything further than 6 inches, including a 10oz silver bar). It literally has the performance of a $50 treasure hunter from Canadian tire, but worse because it gives false readings.

I contacted the company and they want me to pay $100 to send this thing back, with the hopes they will fix it. I already paid $550.00 and now they want me to send the broken garbage back. Perhaps it is a good metal detector, when it's working. Biggest lesson I learned was to never spend this much money online, and that there is most likely a reason why they offer a 25 year warranty....trust me I must of spent 50 hours researching this metal detector. It's sitting in my closet and I plan on selling it to recoup $400 out of my $550. If your going to buy a metal detector that is more than $200, don't buy it online, walk into a store and make sure it works before you physically hand over the dollar bills."

Any comments?????

Don't worry about and don't believe everything you read. Tesoro will take care of you if there ever is a problem with the detector.

25 years warranty? I thought it was a lifetime. At least that is the case with the Compadre.

How did your research? I bought it from the Kellyco company. And it was at my house in 2 days. And I'm in Canada

No problems with mine, but if you just bought it, it should come with a warranty at least for 90 days. Always buy from a reputable seller online also.

I havent bought anything yet. I was doing research and found this write up and wanted to hear what everyone had to say about it.

Thanks

He prolly didnt put it together right...I notice sometimes that the coil connector can come a little loose if you dont tighten it well. That can make a difference. Its a great machine, found my first silver ring with it the other day! And one time i gave up digging on something because it was most likely large trash, but i was digging more than a foot!

I also live in Canada, bought my vaquero online from a reputable dealer. I can't say a bad thing about it except that it doesn't have a voice saying "the gold is 2 more feet to the left".
Very happy with my purchase to say the least.
As far as the guy buying a dud - it's certainly possible, but I read of a lot more dud machines being sold by other company's.
Don't let this stop you from buying a great machine:thumbup:.

Agree 100%

I can't speak for everyone but I yet to find a coin in the air, but that's just me, 2nd I never had any problems with my Tesoro detectors but it comes with a (Life Time)... Warranty, I k now that the most advanced fighter jet that has countless engineers to develop it with cost of billions of dollars and advanced computer system still have injection seat because there still not sure, well I think the guy is just bitter that his hunting buddy kicks his butt on the Vaquero!

There are a lot of things that spells B-O-G-U-S. $550 for a $525 detector via Internet no less? They are less than $450 shipped. A Tesoro 25 year warranty? $100 up front for warranty work? 6 inches on a 10 oz silver bar?

As judge Judy has said for years, if it doesn't make sense, it's not true.

Also, he is going to try to sell it for $400 even though he thinks it is broken? And how would shipping be $100? I agree this sounds like someone with ulterior motives. For what is it worth, I read the same review prior to purchasing my Eldorado and it did not dissuade me.

Did you find this negative review on metal detector reviews.net by any chance?? There are 45 reviews for this detector on this site and out of 45 reviews there is only one negative review. This detector scores 4.8 stars out of 5.....and this average from 45 reviewers shows that this detector is something a bit special.I would totally ignore that one review...you always get one idiot who does not know what they are talking about on all detector reviews....he'd probably forgot to switch it on:lol:

I totally agree. What I'm trying to decide is who's the bigger moron, the person who wrote the review or the person who reads it and hundreds of other positive reviews and is concerned that the Vaquero might not be a good detector. I guess common sense is not so common anymore.

This whole topic is a waste of space and time and should be deleted.

Well said. I know first hand that Tesoro takes care of their customers. Don't let this review stop you from buying an excellent machine like the Vaquero.

First of all we don't charge people to send it in. If it was a new machine, he has 2 choices, return it to whom he bought it from or mail it to us and we will fix it. If the unit has not been neglected, abused or modified, it is covered 100% on our lifetime warranty. This is from the horses mouth and I am the one who deals with broken products and customer tech support.
Our policy is as follows, the customer pays for the shipping to us, we pay for the trip home unless it is outside the NAFTA countries. We do warranty repairs even for people who don't have a warranty. We have always done that. We do a lot of repairs as a courtesy and as you read this forum, you can see people say all the time we fixed their MD even though they bought it used. We send free items every week to people who broke their arm cuffs, lost their battery door, O-rings, silicon, Battery holders and the list is large. We spend on our dime thousands of dollars every year to keep Tesoro users loyal and keep them coming back.
Our units under warranty can be sent in as many times as you like for a tune up to make sure it is in good running order.
Do not believe the 1 guy out there who probably is just writing crap to stir the water.

What Robert said. And don't forget Monte's warning about tweaking the Tesoros. Yeah it can be done-but if you don't know what you're doing you can make matters worse. Then if you sell it to someone else you've really created a monster. And have you noticed that almost ALL Tesoro reviews are about 5 stars? I'd love to have a Vaquero.

Hi Calif quake, no need to sell that Vaq! you were no doubt ripped by whoever sold it to you in the first place and no fault of Tesoro whatsoever. Robert told you ZACTLY how it is with Tesoro and that is all fact. I know that from my own experience with them for many years. As for the Vaq, it is a depth hawg!!!! Just call Robert and let him advise you what to do and get on with it and before you know it you will be digging and grinning! HH. Charlie

It wasn't his, just a review he had read.

If your here in California? There is no need to worry! I use one here and I never have a problem! Sometimes it goes so deep, that I think to myself I must be digging a can or aluminum. But at the bottom there always seems to be a good target. Have dug to 9"+. You'll be glad to have a Vaquero:thumbup:

Its a sabotage, Tesoro is a trusted name in the field plain and simple!
