Found my first Barber Dime today, it's in bad shape

I was hunting around an old barn early this morning, I quit around 9:30, it was already 97 degrees. The ground was full of iron so I switched to TTF and started pulling out some wheats. Found 3 wheats and I cleaned the oldest one it was a 1919 S the others were in the 50's and also found a 1946 nickel. I got a signal that was jumping from 12-39 to 12-43 and couldn't decide what it was but sure worth digging. Dug down about 6" and pulled out a something the size of a dime but it was almost black in color. Water wouldn't clean it, when I got home I used a little soap and soft brush and saw it was a 1907 barber dime, my first. Yippee, even though it is in bad shape it is still a barber and an old coin for my area. I think the ground where the barber was had some fertilizer in it, it was funny looking dirt. I moved away from the barn to where an old house burned down and found the little silver ring. I has "gainsboro sterling" stamped on it. I can't find out much about gainsboro sterling even though there are several old silver rings for sale on the Internet with that mark. Then I found the big piece of brass that says "GOOD ROAD MOTOR CLUB" and has ADA, (for Ada Oklahoma). The only information I found about that was the club was part of AAA and was an organization in 1920, don't know how long it lasted. Not a bad day for me, love finding those firsts. Thanks for looking and try to stay cool. -- Randy

Good job buddy!

Any Barber is a good Barber! Congrats on your first. I would consider those finds a good day!
Thanks for posting,
Bunker

You'll never forget your first Barber and it is early too!

As you have already realized that some older silver dimes read less than the expected numbers
because they are thin and certainly thinner than Rosey's

The other finds are also cool, enjoy the feeling:clap:

Congrats on your first barber and the rest of the goodies!

A HUGE Congratulations to ya Randy! Thanks for the great story and the pictures. We're still prayin' you guys get some good moisture and relief from the heat.

Congrat's on the Barber Dime Randy !

Very nice,now you're ruined,silver hasn't got a chance!
Best of luck looking forward to many more.

REminds me of one 1895 Barber I found. Has a gun metal corrosion that cannot be removed. I did the foil trick and made it shiny, but still has some surface corrosion. Would love to do electrolosys, but that has to eat meatl in the process.
