Found This - ??? - At An 1800's House Last Night

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
Last night I went back to the abandoned, late 1800's house where I found the 1901-S Barber Dime and the 1923 Wheat Cent last week.
It started snowing and it was getting late in the day - so there was only enough time for a one hour hunt.
Was digging on one cent target I.D. numbers and I found this ???

Thought it was a Draw Pull when I dug it up - looked at it when I got home - now I'm thinking it's either a Broach or maybe a Coat Button ?
This piece measures 1" in diameter and has a very ornate design on the backside. Would the back of a clothes button have this fancy of a pattern on it ?
Anyone know what it is ?

Maybe a hat pin?
Very pretty,Thanks for sharing

I know this is far fetched but it looks like a bunch barnacles to me. :lmfao:

Prettiest "Barnacles" I've ever seen.

Sorry guys
Yes it is a button
Ornate but still a button
It is not unusual for a fancy button to have decorations on the inside area
I would have said it looks like a button from the 1950's but you said it is a house fron the 1800's
and then again you did not mention if the house is curently occupiied
so there is a liklihood that the house continued to have people living there through the 1950's and beyond

wouldn't be surprised if it's an old hat pin. Neat find whatever it is...........Hawkeye Jim.

That's a cool find. It's truly amazing how fancy some of the old things were. Can you imagine trying to push that through a buttonhole? It probably had loops, huh? Anyway, that's what makes us love treasure hunting, you never know what's coming out of the ground next. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the I.D. on this piece banditicey !
The neighbor told me that the house was lived in until the 1960's - so a 1950's era coat button seems to make sense - I should have put this info. in my original post.

A Hat Pin - good guess labradorbob - I didn't think of that one !

And Dr. Bill says ... "Barnacles" ! - I don't know where Dr. Bill lives but I have a feeling it's not within driving distance of the ocean !

Mark, Thank you for your response
did not mean to sound like a know it all but im a girl and
in my travels ive seen alot of vintage clothing and your item screamed button and 50's
As for barnacles, I grew up near the Atlantic Ocean and have been a scuba diver for over 20 years
and agree that Dr. Bill may not live near a ocean.
Regards
Eva

Mark, I wonder what that is made out of? I really is in nice shape, maybe brass ? It is amazing how much detail they put into a button, very nice. HH - Randy
