Great Find Using - 2 Tone Ferrous - 1857 Half Dime !

We live in a very rural farm area in Ohio and before our farm was sub-divided years ago it was a total of 300 acres. I'm really lucky because the part of the farm that we own had two 1850's era houses on it. All that's remains of these houses is a few cut sandstones here and there. These two home sites are approx. 1000 ft. apart and both are littered with a lot of iron, nails, and other junk metal. I did manage to get four good coins at these house sites over the last year - three Large Cents dated - 1846 / 1848 / 1849 and a 1904 Barber Dime. After hunting these old foundations for many hours I decided to walk away from them because of all of the iron. Thinking ... maybe I'll go back in the future - when I get to know my E-Trac a little better.

After finding some nice old coins at other locations using - 2 - Tone Ferrous last week ( coins I know I walked over many times in Conductive Multi-Tones and never heard ! ) I decided to try the 2 - Tone Ferrous with a wide open screen - on one of the old foundations on our farm today. I was only on the site for 15 minutes when I got a nice - FE (12) - CON (34) hit that was completely surrounded by iron. I was thinking - maybe I''ll get lucky and dig an Indian Cent on our own property !

Dug wide just to be safe - down approx. 6" - just under the plug - a 1857 Half Dime !
You sure can't beat the old sliver coins - didn't have to clean it - the photo's are the way it came out of the ground.

Needless to say ... I will be going back to a lot of the older iron infested sites that I've hunted across the last year - this time with a secret weapon - 2 Tone Ferrous mode !

very nice I love half dimes, congrats - i'm a 2 tone FE convert myself - you just can't beat the separation ability and speed.
picks out every keeper item from amongst all iron - you really can't miss it if it's there.

Heck of a great find there! I have been giving the 2 tone ferrous some time on my machine but havent had enough time to really figure it out well. too much work.
but I will be giving it more time in the future. Great write up to get me ramped up about it in one of my iron infested areas.

Thanks for sharin,
