I was Trying to get a Maps forum started,i did ask before i posted it,Guvner said it was fine.
He will be watching the replies,to see how many and who is interested.

I am glad to help everyone,if i can find a map for them,or a link, and they end up finding something.
Very good,i like helping people,as i know a lot of you do.
Everyone can use help, and i think a maps forum would be great.
It all depends on you guys, the number of posts, and the replies.
This time it is not on all the forums, just this one.

I am not in wih findmall,i am an everyday joe just like a lot of you.
Thanks for looking,

LabradorBob

count me in - i'd be interested.

i have a "MAPS" folder in my Favorites, where i save any decent links i run across. its a perennial topic on Findmall; especially when folks are looking for a password update for the Sanborn maps.

I think it is a great idea Bob. Very few serious detectorist will not appreciate a source for old maps of the areas they hunt and there are a lot besides Sanborn.

Great deal, I would love to see that one. Reseaching old maps, find old roads, would help out a Lot.

A great idea. Like looking at Sanborn but it doesn't cover much in my area but for others it would be great to be able to have access to those. I am assuming we are talking about old maps of maybe ghost towns, old railroad stops, stage coach lines, and so on to peak peoples interests.

Thanks for bringing up the idea...I think we all would enjoy having more maps for resources and references...especially now winter is here in Michigan what else is there to do beside good research.

every time something was added it could be indexed according to classification. That way when somebody is searching for something in particular you could search the archive first then post for help if you can't find what you need.

Bad idea. I posted my reasoning earlier and somebody else seconded it and you guys deleted it.

I guess we aren't allowed to make any posts on this site unless they are of the 'yay, let's jump on the bandwagon' type posts.

Pathetic.

No you are more than welcome to reply however you feel, thats what we are trying to find out.
If it is wanted or not.
Thanks for the reply,Best of luck.

Im trying to find a reason why it would be bad to have these maps. Id like to see some of the old insurance maps or plate maps available. Are you asking us to provide all the research maps we have for our area that have taken us maybe years to dig out? Some of the cost of these old books or information is not cheap to aquire.

Dew,
No sir,you dont have to provide anything,it a by choice thing.
It can be a lot of topics, such as map viewers everyone can use.
a plat map of an area someone is looking for, sanborn map, topo map, quadrangle map.
Someone may post links to a map site on the internet,or post a map.
provide topics on using viewers such as google earth.

Say on a forum i posted i was looking for a map of southern missouri, someone might send me a link to a site with
Missouri maps to look through.

its just people helping people.
and its by choice.
If you didnt want it posted for everyone, you could send it in a personal message.

Best of luck,
LabradorBob

I already made a post stating my reasons why I was against it. And the entire thread was deleted.

They are all already available online for you to download and/or view. They aren't difficult to find if you know where to look. I just don't think everybody should be spoon fed all of this information and handed great spots to detect that might already be somebody else's favorite spots that might have taken them years to research.

And these books aren't all that expensive either. Many are in the $20 range.
