Frank-----I've tried several brands on my Explorers & Etracs and settled on the Sunray Pro Golds a long time ago.-----I love the tonal quality of them on these machines and they have "ratchet" volume controls on each ear cup, limiter switch & leather (not vinyl) ear cushions.----The cord is just the right length (at least for me) and has a 90 degree jack.----The tonal quality of the Pro Golds is what really excels when used on the Minelabs though, IMHO---they just make for an excellent "marriage".------I ended up using the Golds on all my machines but I think they are at their peak on the Minelabs (Explorers/Etracs).-----The only real downside to them (as I see it) has been the yoke that holds the ear cup breaking.-----Ralph (Sunray) has told me that this material has been "beefed up" on the newer ones & I haven't since had that problem with them.----------Del

Looking for a new set, wondering which ones work the best on the E-Trac?

I modified a set of MilSpec David Clark H10-70 headsets. This type headset is being used in combat right now. I removed the microphone, made a pigtail adapter, replaced the 8 ohm speakers with 150 ohms and installed gel filled pads. They are rugged, sensitive, comfortable, outside noise resistant and should last forever.

Mine is not so good anymore and total deaf in some sounds, so I need a set that has some volume to them and tried many different sets until I found a set that has good volume on the Explorers/ E-Tracs. These were the Troy Pros that had the best volume and yes I did try the Black Widows and most other top of the like headphones. I also found a set called Bushmasters made by Detector Pro for another dealer that has the volume I need for my E-Trac and my Sovereign, so if you need the volume and have a high tone loss I recommend these highly. If you hearing is normal the Sun Ray Pro Gold work great along with the Gray Ghost NDT, the Gray Ghost Ultimates and the Black Widows which are some of the ones I have tried and are great, but not the volume the Troy Pros or the Bushmasters have.

I,ll have to agree with the Pro Golds guys,I ware a hearing aid and I dont have any whisling and the sound is clear.

I've been using Ultimate Gray Ghost's for over a year now - their fantastic !

I'm sure any of the high end headphones will do the job - no sense putting a set of cheap speakers on a $1500.00 stereo.

If possible - take your machine to a local metal detector dealer - this way you can see what type of headphones sound the best and are the most comfortable to you.

Good luck !

Hey Pete, just cruising the posts. No luck on the Church yet. Did get something local up north though. You'll be the first to know when I hear something. Take care! MIke
