I just ordered my E-TRAC and it should be here early next week. I plan on going over every place I have visited in the past here locally with the E-TRAC to see if I missed anything with my previous detectors,Bounty Hunter and Teknetics. From what I have read the E-TRAC will pick up things other detectors have missed. I sure hope so!

Congratulations on your new machine. I'm sure you will be very pleased. If you have no prior experience on Minelab machines you may want to try this first. Turn your E-Trac on noise cancel and hunt. Get familiar with the buttons and what they do before you start changing anything. The E-Trac is an amazing detector. HH

You've bought a great machine and it will sniff out the coins others have missed but since you've never used an Explorer before you might get a little frustrated with all those unfamiliar tones you're going to hear when you first start. Even pinpointing might give you trouble at first.
Be patient, stick with the stock settings, go slow, dig a lot of targets (good and bad), ask a lot of questions, and practice , practice, practice. Once you''ve learn the E-trac language you'll be off and running. I'm not saying you won't do well right off the but just in case remember this post.

Thanks for all the support guys! I just received through e-mail my order confirmation. From what I have read so far this forum has some very good intuitive advice. Don't know if this has been addressed yet or not,but how do you find historical information in your area? Would the local library have maps,,say dating back to the 1800's?

I can tell you for sure that you will find coins in spots "hunted out" by other machine. You may go a little crazy at first because of all of the sounds your E-trac will be throwing at you but, go slow and use the coin program. Don't fiddle with too many settings off the bat or you may get very frustrated.

If I may add my 2 cents worth, here it is. Read your owners manual. Then read Andy's book. PRACTICE in your yard first. Use a test garden. Get your ears and mind focused on the tones and basic numbers(they will very). If you get disgusted put it away and relax.Reread your manuals, then try again. Once you start getting used to this machine you will be Amazed at what you can find wherever your at. This machine has so much to offer (once you get a few hrs on it(30 or more)) you'll never want to put it down. This is the way I feel about this machine. I have had mine alittle over 2 months and I love it. I still have alot to learn and have not found no great finds, but I'm finding coins, a few rings and junk, but I'm learning and having fun doing it.! Good luck and enjoy!!! Happy detecting!!
