Hello again guys and gals. Here are the finds I got on Saturday and Sunday, the 15th and 16th of this month. Let's get to the story.
Tim and I headed back out in the search for more goodies on Saturday and we both decided to not come back until Sunday Night so it was going to be a long weekend for us again.
We started off pretty good at a small town Park that at first we didn't think was old at all. The Playground Equipment and an Old Concrete Basketball Court was the only true signs of the place being old enough for some Wheats or Silver so we kept at it for quite awhile. Eventually, I ran into a Wheatie and then a Silver Rosie. We hunted this Park for at least 2 hours or so and we did get some goodies. Tim got lucky once again and was able to pull out a Walker, a Silver Quarter, and a few Silver Dimes also. He also got a couple Wheats to add to his pocket. I got a few Merc's, Rosie's and a few Wheats here. I also dug a 1939 Jefferson Nickel from this spot.
After leaving this spot, it was a tough hunt. We didn't find much after this on Saturday but for some Wheats and maybe a couple Silver but it was a really tough hunt and only hoped for improved results on Sunday.
We stayed at a Campsite and slept in my Car for the night since single rooms cost $80 which was a joke. So we slept in my Saturn and you know.....it's amazing how comfortable it was since the Seats laid all the way back.
Morning came on Sunday and we decided to go try out a School where an Old Park once was at to see if we couldn't get lucky and find some goodies on the Boulevards. Tim only found a Wheatie here and I didn't get anything but some Clad. So we moved onto another location.
We decided to go give an Old Fairgrounds a shot where Tim had visited before and found quite a few Silvers at. He only hunted a small area due to the grass only being mowed in one location so he thought it would be a good spot to try.
We arrived at the location and started hunting. At first, all we were finding were a few Deeper Clad Coins in the areas that Tim had never tried but about an hour later, we finally found a spot that had some Wheats showing up. Tim was starting to work an area and I knew he had found some Silver there just because he was working a Pattern. I finally got a Silver Rosie that was barely 2" Deep. I also was picking up a few Wheats on the way here as well. Tim finally moved from the area he was working and I had thought he had gotten all the goodies because he left. I eventually walked into that spot and started to get a few shallower Signals. I decided to dig them and see what they were. They turned out to be shallow Wheats so I started to work the area hard myself to see what else might be there. I don't know if Tim worked it with a tight Pattern or not but I started to pull a couple Wheats and then a surprise comes out of one hole. A Silver Washington Quarter! I yelled over to Tim and told him I just found a Silver Quarter and he didn't look too happy about that. I kept working the area and soon found a Rosie, 2 Merc's, and a few more Wheats. Tim then asked if I wanted to go check out that Ball Field area and before I could answer him, I got a good strong signal that showed about 6"-8" Deep. I didn't reply really to his question so I dug the plug and to my surprise, out pops a No Date Standing Liberty Quarter!
I then yelled over to Tim and told him Standing Liberty Quarter! You could really see the disgust on his face now since he walked away from that spot. About 3 minutes later I got another good signal and dug a plug. I was in sheer awe when I seen another Silver Quarter surface!
I then told Tim I just pulled another Silver Quarter. Tim kept telling me that I should find a Walker there if the Quarters were there and I didn't think so. I eventually did find a Half Dollar though and it did tick me off a bit when I seen it since it was in the general location where I was pulling the Quarters from. It turned out to be a Stinkin' Clad Kennedy Half Dollar!
Darn things have been tormenting me this summer that's for sure and Tim got a chuckle when I told him what I got. Darn Clad Halves!
Shortly after this we decided to go try where the Ball Field was.
On the way over to the Ball Field area, we come across a small area of construction in front of an Old Church so we had to stop since there could be Barber or Indian Heads there. The area wasn't that big, maybe 35' Long and about 12' Wide so it wouldn't take us long to hunt that. We got out and I noticed I lost my Brass Probe over at the Fairgrounds. I looked in the Car but it wasn't there. We went on to detect this little area and this is what we found. Tim found 2 Indian Heads, a Mercury Dime and 2 or 3 Wheats. I got 2 Wheats, an Indian Head and a Barber Dime. Tim didn't like it that I got the only Barber but that's the way it goes. Maybe next time buddy!
We then decided to try out the Ball Field that Tim knew about but never tried. We hunted this for only about 20 minutes since it seemed it was messed up pretty good. The only keeper found here was a 1958-d Wheatie found by me.
Tim then asked if we should go hit a few neighboring towns or go back to the Fairgrounds where we knew there was Silver at. I didn't know what to do and I wanted to try and get my Probe back before we went home. I eventually told Tim let's go check out the next town. We headed over to the next town and tried a Park and Ball Field there. It was pretty dead and we knew we had made a mistake of leaving the Fairgrounds. Good thing was that it was only about 12 Miles or so away so we hurried back to see if we couldn't get a few more keepers before the sun went down and to see if we couldn't find my Probe.
We got back there and about 15 minutes into it, I relocated my Brass Probe. I figured it was over in the area where I was finding a few Shallow Clad and that is where it was. I must have forgotten to pick it back up so I'm glad I got it back. We hunted this for about another hour or so with a few more keepers being found. I got a few more Wheats, a Silver Rosie, and another Standing Liberty Quarter. The Standing Liberty Quarter was reading like Iron does, giving my a Solid 31 on Digital. Only once did it change pitch and that was all I needed to know that it wasn't Iron....at least something maybe next to Iron but not all Iron under my Coil. I dug the Plug and was kinda stunned when the Probe rang out clear. I was thinking it would null but it didn't. I really was shocked when I seen in the bottom of the hole the edge of a Silver Quarter laying flat. Tim couldn't believe that I got another Standing Liberty Quarter either. He wanted to find a Silver Quarter he said and I told him "not today.....you got yours yesterday so it was my turn!". Tim ended up finding a couple more Wheats and a Merc before we left though.
I'm sure we will be going back there sometime since the stuff is there. It was another successful hunt again and if it wasn't for Tim knowing about this Fairgrounds and stuff being there, we wouldn't have done that well on finds at all. There was a lot of spots that were hit hard by someone out there so every site wasn't loaded with riches. We worked our butt's off again for what we got and hope to find some more spots this weekend. Now to the totals.
For Silver during these 2 days, I got another 17 of them. They are 2 No Date Standing Liberty Quarters, 2 Washington Quarters dated 1934,1954, 1 Barber Dime dated 1905-O (normal O), 7 Mercury Dimes dated 1917,1919-s,1920,1923,1938,1943,1944, and 5 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1950-s,1952-d,1957-d,1958-d and 1961-d. I also dug 1 Clad Kennedy Half Dollar dated 1971-d. Nickels were few and I only got 1 which was a 1939 Jefferson Nickel. The Indian Heads were almost no where to be found but got lucky and found 1 dated 1902. Wheaties this time around totalled 37. They are dated 17,18,18-d,19,19-s,27-s,35-d,39,40,(2)40-d,41,(2)44,(2)44-d,45-s,(4)46-d,46-s,47-d,48-d,49-d,51-s,(2)52-d,53-d,54-d,(2)55-d,(2)56-d,(2)57-d and 58-d. For Misc. Finds, I got a Large Softball or Baseball Medal which is cheaply made with no inscription on the back, 2 Old Copper Rings, a Sterling Silver Ring, an Old Brass Bell, part of an Aluminum Kids Ring, a Key, another Cheap Ring that looks like Gold but isn't and a National Heroes Gen. U. S. Grant Mazuma Play 25 Coin which I thought was a Cracker Jack or Shell Token. That was a neat find to get and my first Mazuma Play Coin like that. Well that does it for this round of finds. Hope you enjoyed the pics and the little story with it.
Coming up next will be the haul from the 10th Annual Club Hunt for Minnkota Artifact And Recovery Group which I attended this last weekend and a short hunt with actual real lost finds I got Sunday Night after the Club Meeting. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all. May you find some location near you and rake in the Silver and other great finds that I have so luckily been able to find this season.
