Once I get some more time in with the E-trac and the stock coil, I will be looking for a little coil. Is there a best little coil?? I am a big fan of the little coils, the littler the better. I have 3 other detectors and have little coils for all of them.

It is looking like all 3 may become closet queens. LOL The first time out with the E-trac I took one of the 3 as a backup, since then I just take the E-trac and hunt.

I have the small 7" minelab one works great came with mine it was a used Etrac but I hear good things about the small sunray's..
 
My buddy uses a X5 and loves it. He's almost as proud of it as Sunray and for the price , should be:)
I use the 4.5 x 7 Excelerator and can find everything he does and cover 40% more ground. All of the 6" work well also , I think it would be very difficult to show a definitive difference between any of them , except of course the Coilteks , which are like nothing you've ever seen before ,,,just ask a Coiltek owner.
The nice thing is that there seems to always be a fresh supply of used coils popping up so you can experiment to your hearts desire. Coil selection for the etrac is one of it's greatest attributes.
 
I just picked up the Detech 8x6 sef coil and am happy with it in the high trash areas. It's a little less $ than the Sunrays too.
 
I love my Sun Ray X-5 and found a lightly used one for about 100.00 that Backwoods Metal Detectors had offered on Ebay. I have posted quite a few postings about my experience with it on this forum. I have found a ton of great items with it from areas that have been hit very hard in the past. I have not used the other small coils out there but I can definitely say that the X-5 works and works very well.

I love my 8x6! Wonderful depth and seperation.
 
Have to agree on the 6x8 dtec this is the best little coil that separates like no other and the depth is crazy sometimes.... I have found several coins in the 9" range...
Just one coil you really can't go wrong on....the x5 is good also but I think the 6x8 will find what it would because of its great separation and cover more area...and
Like I said the depth may surprise you .......good luck ....most of the post on here are post by ones that no what they are talking about.....just need to pick one....
 
I'd put a vote in for the Detech 6x8 SEF coil . . has been my "go-to" small coil for years now

Well, kind of surprised that the little x5 didn't come in first place, I have read a lot of post about there finds with that coil.

But the Guru's say different and the Detech 6x8 coil will be the one I look for when the time comes. May need to sale one of my extra detectors to support my E-Trac habit. LOL

Now changing coils on the E-Trac doesn't seem like a easy quick job. Do you guys buy any or all of the shafts to go along with the coil? Seems like both sections would be the best but may cost a bunch of $$. Do most of the E-Trac dealers carry the shafts to sale with the extra coils?

Ron, I picked-up just the lower shaft for my 8x6 coil. I believe it's best to do this since I want to keep a good solid connection between the coil and the lower shaft and don't think it's a good idea to be constantly removing and replacing a coil at that connection point. It is a quick change-over by just sliding the new coil connector up the upper shaft and carefully connecting it to the receptacle. Just wanted to mention, only finger tight the connector and hold onto the receptacle while tightening the connector. Steve
 
Is that lower shaft a dealer stock item or a factory order?

Actually, changing the coils is really easy. I use a length of picture hanging wire and twist it onto the cable of the coil you want to install. Then just feed it through the lower shaft and once it appears at the end just guide the cable through the lower shaft opening and pull the cable right up and through. Take the wire again and repeat with the upper shaft next, pull the cable through that one while sliding the upper shaft over the lower shaft. Just hook up your cable to the box and secure your cam locks. Really is very simple and works like a charm. Usually takes me 3-4 minutes to do out in the field and I don't have to spend $100.00 for the upper and lower shafts..
 
Using my 8x6 sef coil today, I dug a 100 year old wheatie next to a nail. Great separation with this coil. Also found a 1955D wheatie next to a pull tab. Love this coil...
 
WOW that kind iced the cake for me, now I need turn one of the extra detectors into cash and I will see if I can find a deal on a 8x6 coil.

Ever since i got my coiltek 6 inch sniper the coins have been leaping out of the ground and into my pouch all by themselves. Can the excelerator do that?

I'll toss my 2 cents on the sef 6x8 as well. Great depth and separation for the size. I've also had good success with the detech 6" excelerator.
 
Sunray 8" is perfect for the Etrac
