Met up with Guvner and Crowduck. Got 11 Silver...2 Injuns...a 1922 Dog License...and...

Dick Tracy's beat up old car:super:

We met up at an out of town park and hunted all day.

I spent the first couple of hours trying out the WOT coil...as did Guvner. The park is a little too trashy for a larger coil...but I wanted to take it for an initial spin anyway..

I dug 4 targets with it in the next two hours. The first two targets were memorial cents which were both around 9" deep.

The next target though was the 1899 Barber quarter ...pretty much on edge between 8" and 9". What a pleasant surprise that was.:surprised:

The fourth target sent me nearly halfway to China before I located it. I kept digging and digging until I literally had my arm in the hole up to my elbow...seriously.:smoke:
I had Guvner come over to take a look at my arm in the hole and we placed the probe in there. He then took a pic which I will post at a later date.

From every bit of 15" down came the ancient toy car..and on one side I can barely make out the letters "acy"...telling me I had found an old DickTracy car.

I will be doing some very extensive field testing of the Coiltec 15" WOT coil over the next few weeks...and I want to thank Doc for providing me with an extra tall man lower rod for it. It makes is soooooo much easier to already have the coil set up on a rod to just pop on the SE.

I plan on taking it to 5 or 6 of my beat up parks to see if I can pull a few more deepies out of each place. When I have completed everything...I will post the results....my thoughts..etc...and hopefully some finds.

I'm really looking forward to it because the WOT is one coil I have always heard great things about. I tried one for about 30 minutes a few years ago...but at that time my then new SE wasn't functioning as it should. In fact it was so unstable I had to send it back to Minelab and they completely replaced the control box.

Anyway we decided to switch back to our normal coils because of the multitude of iron and trash at this park.

An old feller' had told me last year that they used to have a "dime pitch" for kids here back in the late 50's to early 60's. It was something they did as an annual charity thing for those few years.

They tore out the old wishing well structure and the old small building that stood next to it ..many years ago. They then just scattered and buried all the iron and junk all over the dimes the kids had tossed and lost.:stars:

A couple of years ago a detecting club also had a buried hunt here..so there was even some goodies left by them.
Over 35 hunters pounded this 50' x 90' area for 4 hours one day...then the same 35 people pounded it again the next day for another 4 hours.

Anyway about 3 hours into the hunt I had 5 silver in my pouch...and Guvner...well...had an empty pouch.

I then got another of the hits I was looking for and called Guvner over so he could listen to it. It was a perfect example of a silver coin on edge and hiding in iron. It was an absolute sweet screamer...but from only one precise spot. If you turned it was gone...and if you circled the hole it was gone. In that one spot though...it just sounded sweet...and different from iron falsing. He piddled with the signal for a while and said he wouldn't have dug it.:nono: :detecting:

After a couple of minutes of trying to find it way off the center of the hole...out came another Roosey. Guvner mumbled a few choice words about me teaching him bad hunting habits:rolleyes:... and one way signals:rolleyes:...but he now knew the sound he needed to listen for...and to also ignore the screen...hunting only by sound.

After having his eyes opened..and his pie hole closed:bouncy:...over the next few hours.. his pouch started to fill up. He pocketed 5 silver and every one was on edge and in the iron.

4 of the Roosies I got were in the 5" to 6" range...but straight on edge and surrounded by iron.
The other 5 Roosies and the Merc were much deeper at 8" in heavy iron... and had been covered up many years ago when the wishing well structure was scattered and buried.

We then continued to hunt for another hour or so and around 6:30 Guvner started to wander towards the vehicles so we headed over there.

He says..."well I kinda lost interest since there's not much old stuff here...just can't get excited"

I replied..."that's funny G...cause' me and Crowduck each got a Barber quarter..and I got 2 Injuns as well"

I then said "Now you know why I call Crowduck..(who's name is also Gary)...G-Money....and I just call you plain old G.

I could tell you more about the escapades of Guvner this day...but he threatened to make up some garbage and post it if I did.:crylol:

Anyway...I WON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HIM GETTING INTO A SHOUTING MATCH WITH AN OLD MAN IN THE RESTARAUNT PARKING LOT....BUT FEEL FREE TO ASK HIM ABOUT IT. :crylol:

Now that is what I call a PRODUCTIVE day. WOW:yikes: congrats.

:rofl:Then you will have "0" time for detecting. Right Guv ?????????

I am interested in knowing more about the coins on edge. I know I have discovered a few that I could tell were vertical in the hole, but unless they are in the initial plug, once I take some scoops out of the bottom of the hole I usually can't tell how they were oriented. Anyhow, Let me get this right... the coins on edge you are digging are two way hits (beep-beep when you pass the coil over it), but do not repeat at 45 degrees? I imagine the signal is very tight and requires a slower sweep speed?

Congrats on the great finds, and thanks for the good story too. :)

Looks like Bryce kicked some butt that day....I can't wait to read Guv's post....Great job Bryce.....sounds like you had some fun, and thats what counts the most!

Plus... I really think restaurant is spelled differently. RESTARAUNT just doesn't look right to me.. Any spell checkers out there? If you're going to do reporting Bryce get a copy editor...

Aside from capitalizing misspelled words it seemed he capitalized on hunting where someone buried dimes straight up. His idea of old may not be mine apparently. Every dime I found was sitting on edge making me think I wasn't going to be very excited about the finds. Rosies and mercs being common wasn't common to me. Since he had so many of them I maintained I wasn't excited at all about the finds. It was just excellent posturing I think. :D

The two barber quarters were deep though and because of them I'd go there again. One good reason to hunt with him is he insisted on buying lunch which makes the lessons bearable at least.

More lessons on life from Bryce.. He does get a grin on his face when he does tell you something he thinks is useful. Like how to hunt the wrong way. :D

I actually had a blast and this post doesn't even begin to touch on all the bantering back and forth that went on all day. Bryce is a fun guy to hunt with and he does get excited about every find. I do find myself more excited these days when I at least get a wheatie. As hard as these parks have been hunted it's almost a miracle they've been missed. G-money is a great guy too. Surprised he even stays around Bryce with that silver luck streak he has going. Glad he got the long name from Bryce. I hate typing and G is just fine.

G..

A nice hunt guys. :clapping: Congratulations to all.

Boy, that Guv guy sure gets testy when he gets shown up Bryce.................

Bryce, wow a great hunt.I'm usually happy with one silver coin.Again with a few hunters in the field a lot of stories being swapped and fun.Great post.

It's bad enough we have posters like you on the White's forums... Geeezzz... :)

G..

He does it much more and he'll think he lost another bet when he comes online to the forums.. :D

G..

That was a great day for you Bryce. It sounds like none of those coins were easy to find.
Most likely, I'd have went home frustrated with a pouch full of iron & few if any keepers after a few hours at that place.

D filled the fridge with root beer yet?
I just can't seem to get through to her that us hunters need beverages in the fridge...and food kept in the cabinets at all times. She needs to get with the program here. I'd better stop whinin' or she's liable to pop me in the mug next time I come over.:smoke:

I hope you pull a few more goodies out with the 6 x 8. I'm going to put a few hours on mine this weekend if the weather cooperates. I'll be hit and miss with the work schedule...but they have been cool so far about letting me have a little time.

Great story as well. Looks like a very successful hunt. Nice job on getting a Barber Quarter...those are always a blast to find even when worn out. The Dog Tax Tag is pretty neat and I also like the Toy Car. Congrats on yet another successful hunt and hope the WOT finds you a few keepers in some of them "Pounded Parks" you take it too. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

find Barbers...seated...etc. Sure...it's nice sometimes...but as long as something is shinin' at the bottom of the hole...I'm thrilled.
After talking with the old feller' at this park...I knew there was some newer silver that had to have been buried underneath the iron 25 years ago:thumbup:

I need to be back at work very shortly.

However...I do have time for just this one comeback...and then I shall let it end there.

Here ya' go G.....here's my ONE comeback......My "wrong way" hunting tips put FIVE silver dimes in your otherwise empty pouch:cool:

Now on a more serious note....it has been a blast hunting with you over the last few weeks.
The bantering...teasing...ribbing...etc...is all in good fun. I wouldn't have it any other way...and I'm sure you wouldn't either.
We'll do it again soon I'm sure.

I hope it will find some walked over deep stuff. I was really impressed with it during the initial run Saturday. Amazing how stable it was for a large coil...rock sold at whatever sensitivity I chose. Take care buddy...and thanks for responding.
