Dick Tracy's beat up old car
We met up at an out of town park and hunted all day.
I spent the first couple of hours trying out the WOT coil...as did Guvner. The park is a little too trashy for a larger coil...but I wanted to take it for an initial spin anyway..
I dug 4 targets with it in the next two hours. The first two targets were memorial cents which were both around 9" deep.
The next target though was the 1899 Barber quarter ...pretty much on edge between 8" and 9". What a pleasant surprise that was.
The fourth target sent me nearly halfway to China before I located it. I kept digging and digging until I literally had my arm in the hole up to my elbow...seriously.
I had Guvner come over to take a look at my arm in the hole and we placed the probe in there. He then took a pic which I will post at a later date.
From every bit of 15" down came the ancient toy car..and on one side I can barely make out the letters "acy"...telling me I had found an old DickTracy car.
I will be doing some very extensive field testing of the Coiltec 15" WOT coil over the next few weeks...and I want to thank Doc for providing me with an extra tall man lower rod for it.
It makes is soooooo much easier to already have the coil set up on a rod to just pop on the SE.
I plan on taking it to 5 or 6 of my beat up parks to see if I can pull a few more deepies out of each place. When I have completed everything...I will post the results....my thoughts..etc...and hopefully some finds.
I'm really looking forward to it because the WOT is one coil I have always heard great things about. I tried one for about 30 minutes a few years ago...but at that time my then new SE wasn't functioning as it should. In fact it was so unstable I had to send it back to Minelab and they completely replaced the control box.
Anyway we decided to switch back to our normal coils because of the multitude of iron and trash at this park.
An old feller' had told me last year that they used to have a "dime pitch" for kids here back in the late 50's to early 60's. It was something they did as an annual charity thing for those few years.
They tore out the old wishing well structure and the old small building that stood next to it ..many years ago. They then just scattered and buried all the iron and junk all over the dimes the kids had tossed and lost.
A couple of years ago a detecting club also had a buried hunt here..so there was even some goodies left by them.
Over 35 hunters pounded this 50' x 90' area for 4 hours one day...then the same 35 people pounded it again the next day for another 4 hours.
Anyway about 3 hours into the hunt I had 5 silver in my pouch...and Guvner...well...had an empty pouch.
I then got another of the hits I was looking for and called Guvner over so he could listen to it. It was a perfect example of a silver coin on edge and hiding in iron. It was an absolute sweet screamer...but from only one precise spot. If you turned it was gone...and if you circled the hole it was gone. In that one spot though...it just sounded sweet...and different from iron falsing.
He piddled with the signal for a while and said he wouldn't have dug it.

After a couple of minutes of trying to find it way off the center of the hole...out came another Roosey. Guvner mumbled a few choice words about me teaching him bad hunting habits
... and one way signals
...but he now knew the sound he needed to listen for...and to also ignore the screen...hunting only by sound.
After having his eyes opened..and his pie hole closed
...over the next few hours.. his pouch started to fill up. He pocketed 5 silver and every one was on edge and in the iron.
4 of the Roosies I got were in the 5" to 6" range...but straight on edge and surrounded by iron.
The other 5 Roosies and the Merc were much deeper at 8" in heavy iron... and had been covered up many years ago when the wishing well structure was scattered and buried.
We then continued to hunt for another hour or so and around 6:30 Guvner started to wander towards the vehicles so we headed over there.
He says..."well I kinda lost interest since there's not much old stuff here...just can't get excited"
I replied..."that's funny G...cause' me and Crowduck each got a Barber quarter..and I got 2 Injuns as well"
I then said "Now you know why I call Crowduck..(who's name is also Gary)...G-Money....and I just call you plain old G.
I could tell you more about the escapades of Guvner this day...but he threatened to make up some garbage and post it if I did.
Anyway...I WON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HIM GETTING INTO A SHOUTING MATCH WITH AN OLD MAN IN THE RESTARAUNT PARKING LOT....BUT FEEL FREE TO ASK HIM ABOUT IT.
