MINELAB??

Tired Rooster

New member
Need some honest answers here guys. I'm not that new to MD'ing but have 0 experience with a Minelab machine. No doubt they are a serious piece of electronics. But, I live in central (somewhat north of central) Alabama. The soil here can be crazy/difficult at times in alot of areas. High mineralization and lots of iron. I am becoming dangerously close to picking a Minelab as my next detector due to their reputation of handling bad soil easily. #1) Would the Minelab be a good choice for this area? #2) Looking at the Sovereign GT and the E-Trac....opinions on these choices please for this area? #3) Honestly, how complex is the learning curve on the E-Trac. I'm scared....very scared of this:laugh:

You can't go wrong with an etrac, it's very easy to learn in my opinion. It's pretty much a turn on and go machine. No need to change any settings until you feel comfortable doing so, and then . I used to hunt with a white's dfx and it was a lot of work. I don't regret the etrac's price tag at all anymore. It will take me a while to make it pay for itself monetarily but the improvement it has made in my hunting and the resulting finds have made it worth every penny (no pun intended.....). If you feel uncertain, just read some of the posts on this forum for a few days/weeks. You won't be able to hold yourself back.

Either machine would be a great choice. Do not be worried about the learning curve. If you choose the E-Trac follow the instructions on the inside front of the manual. Turn the machine on noise cancel and hunt. The factory coin program works very well. You should edit the top right line so the machine will accept silver dollars. Run in auto sensitivity until you get some time on the machine. If you choose the Soveriegn GT just follow the start-up instructions. If and when you have any problems bring them to this forum and you will get all the help you need. Good luck with whatever machine you choose. HH :minelab:

I agree with all the above! Etrac is a different animal but it can be done. Right away? yes ..with some good sucess.....the more you use it...the better you get. If you get in trouble you can always ask someone here....or call me and I will tell you what to do...it does help to know someone that knows something about the machine.

Etrac is in the top 3 in the world and top 2 in the US......I would never get rid of my etrac....unless.....Minelab comes out with something better....which Im sure they will!
