W@W this was a long time coming! My post was going to be completely different than this one...until the last hole dug this morning, After 3 hours of swingin' the coil I had just 7 wheaties. Don't get me wrong I'm very happy with that because I hunt only areas that have been pounded for 30 plus years. I was going to post just that..my 7 wheaties and how I was happy to have popped them out of the pounded ground..and that how many times I'll come home after 3 to 4 hours with only a few wheaties and NO silver. Then it happened! I ran the coil over the last 3 feet of ground between the ground and where it changes to gravel. I got a nice high flutey hit and it read like silver. I didn't get overly excited because 3 or 4 of the wheaties had caused the crosshairs to peg like silver too. Anyway I dug down about 5" to 6" and popped out wheatie #8 and thought.."okay I will post these and explain how silver doesn't always pop out".
I gave the hole a quick double check with the probe as always...and BINGO...another coin in the hole! I got a solid pegged high hit that was definately silver about 2" deeper in the hole which was gravel at this depth. Now I got excited so I carefully dug down around the center of the hit as to not damage my silver dime that was sure to pop out. I pried at the last part of the circle of hardened soil/gravel mix and this big beauty plopped right up and out like a fish jumping out of water. My hands started shaking and I said "Holy Sh%*"..."that ain't no dime" (Before you ask.....the answer is yes... I was talking to myself!) I couldn't help it because this was honestly the last thing I expected to pop out. I was totally shocked as this site has been hit for 30 years and this is the first Walking Liberty Half that I have ever pulled out.I didn't even rub the dirt off yet because I wanted you all to see exactly how it came out of the nasty gravel soil. Man I LOVE this hobby!
