As a new member of the forum I just wanted to say "Hi!". Just got my new E-Trac last Thursday and have logged about six hours on it since then. Its not been a stellar beginning with 3 wheaties from the 40s and several dozen modern coins found so far, but I have to say I really like the way the E-Trac performs. It's soooooo much easier to use than the White's V3i and has better depth (Not to bash the V3i; its a good machine; I just personally think its too complicated for my detecting style). My deepest find thus far was an old ointment or toothpaste tube about 12" deep. Which brings up a question. The E-trac indicated a FE/CO number of 12-42 (as I recall) about 6" deep. I know the depth meter is based on a coin-sized item; so is it typical for the depth meter to indicate that the item is much shallower than it actually is if the item is much larger than a coin? Looking forward to learning from all of you E-Trac old-timers.

Yes,They will sometimes register shallower if they are large.
You can also learn to tell the size of objects with time!

welcome to this great forum looks like you are doing just fine any questions just shoot always someone ready to answer your queries happy hunting

Welcome, lots of good information on here. Large objects will read shallower then they actually are and the opposite is true for small obects; they will read deeper then they acctually are.

from what i have seen in my test garden, quarter size targets appear accurate, smaller coins read deeper than they actually are, and halves and larger coins are actually deeper than the depth indicator ...uhh...indicates.

Good to see ya here. Looking forward to hearing more about your finds.

Hey guys. Thanks for the comments. Nothing new to report; detecting time is very limited due to the excessive heat and lack of rain.
