OK, let's get some posts going on finds & techniques . . . . here's one to start the ball rolling

This past weekend I did some driving around to a few sites that I had hit before and thought were pretty well cleaned out. One was where a few houses had stood that dated back to the 1890's. They had been bulldozed which made it a real chore to hunt between all the trash present.

I have been using a pattern locally that has worked well for me . . . . . I've attached a copy if anyone wants to experiment with it. If anyone wants an explanation as to what each rejected section is for, let me know . . . . there is actually method to my madness as they say.

This time I went back with the 6 inch Excelerator coil hoping to pull a few more targets out of the site. Well, I was a bit surprised at the results but about 1.5 hours turned up some clad, some trash, 5 Wheat cents ranging from 1917 to 1946 along with the 3 nice silver's in the photo.

(No, that is not a nick on the 1902 Barber . . . . it's only an optical illusion . . . at least that's my story and I am sticking with it :rage: . . . ever notice you never nick a 2007 penny? And the good coins are always wedged under a tree root and besides a rock no?)

The coins (other than the clad) had been between 5 inches and 7 inches deep which is pretty solid considering the size of the coil I had been using.

If you have some sites that you have been through with an Explorer or E-Trac and heard nulling from trash as you hunted it, getting a smaller coil might just reopen some of those sites . . . . . I've been taking the small coil with me in the truck whenever I head out recently just in case I hit a site that is trash-filled.

Let's see some more finds . . . . . even if they were made before the snow hit . . . . . . and how about sharing some pattern / setting files along with explanations as to why changes were made to help others get their detector dialed in before the thaw comes.

i had been running in fast on deep off,i have recently switched to deep on fast off and i really like the sounds alot better and my finds have seemed to start to improve but it seems to take longer to recover from a target and i worry i am missing stuff. Also the tid seems to respond alot slower and it takes several swings to start seeing an accurate id.Am i going crazy:crazy:

When it comes to id'ing the target, the audio will always respond faster than the LCD screen display will.

If you are in trash, FAST recovery will work better but you are correct in that the response will be different and takes a bit to get used to. Most of my hunting is in high trash and I run in FAST almost all the time

Thank you Andy. I will have to save this Pattern to My E-Trac,and study it. Looks interesting.

The areas rejected were for:

1) The lower region (FE=28 to 35) to eliminate much of the ferrous trash

2) The left to reject foil and real low conductive trash

3) The CO=50 line to get rid of most of the hot rock signals from the hot rocks in my area

4) The upper region to eliminate the iron falsing some trash produces . . . . I had to reject more than just the FE=01 line as some have tried

5) Opened the area up on the upper right to pick up larger silver coins

I am on the road but can but a screen shot up with a description when I get back if anyone is interested

Andy........................Still have not had a chance to download your program to my E-Trac,much less use it " Brrrrrrrrr.........Here "
A screen shot & explanation (When You Get back) Would be useful to us I beleive..........And much appreciated as well//////////
Thanks Andy, Dave

I've only had my E-Trac for about six weeks. I've been hunting an area that has a fair amount of iron. I'm looking for early 1800's coins and button's. For the first month I used the stock coin program and just worked on learning the detector and trying to find the tones I liked. I tried manual sensitivity, but I think auto works better for me. We have good soil here. It just seems more stable in auto and I'm running around 24 to 25 most of the time. The last few times I've gone out, I have experimented with Tony Hunt's program and all metal. I've done good with all three. I've picked up some good coins that were masked by junk along side them. I couldn't find any difference between them. All three picked up the coins about the same. It's a great detector for pulling these hard to find coins. I am having a problem with small pieces of iron deep. I'm getting good CO numbers and the FE bouncing. I'd like to hear if anyone else is having the same problem and if they came up with a solution for it. I'd like to hear how everyone else is running their E-Tracs.

Andy----Would really appreciate it if you would put up a screen shot & description of this program.----It sounds very similar to one I have set up.---Enjoying your book.-------Del

As a new owner I dont have a lot to offer but wanted to take the opportunity to say a big THANKS to Andy for the book. It has been invaluable and Im so pleased with my first couple of outings, not so much for what I found (which was good anyway) but for the fact that Andy's book made a lot of sense from an exercise that might have been more "mysterious" without it

Cheers Andy, I will be reading this thread with interest.

1 - Open E-Trac XChange
2 - Click on the Patterns tab
3 - In the 'I want to' dropbox select 'Upload pattern to E-Trac'
4 - Click the 'Open' button
5 - Navigate to and select Andy's downloaded pattern file
6 - Click 'Open' button
7 - If it's a valid pattern file it will display a new dropbox to select the pattern slot
8 - Select a pattern slot
9 - Click 'Upload'

If your E-Trac is connected, turned on and recognized by your PC, then the pattern will upload.

Wow, this baby is a year old! Hey Andy, still using this pattern? I have used it on and off for the last year and it works great! I did make a couple of little modifications to not miss some gold/platinum and raised the FE line to 26(?) I think. Just wondering if anyone else (especially the author :please: ) has done any tweaking to it?
