Omega's VID Numbers Are Higher With The 11" Coil

I used the 11 inch DD coil for the first time yesterday on the Omega and was getting a "90" on quarters. I normally get a "88" with the the stock 10 inch coil for quarters. The larger coil covers ground a whole lot faster than the stock coil does, but it's a little more difficult to pinpoint with. I had absolutely no trouble at all with EMI until I switched sites. Even with all the wild chatter I was still finding coins left and right, but it was driving me nuts. I finally had to put it back in the car and pull out the Vaquero. The EMI had little or no effect on the Vaquero. I really enjoy swinging the Omega when there's little or no EMI. It's a coin finding hound. However, you'd better have some nerve pills or a good back-up detector with you when you go to a site that has EMI.

Both the Omega and Vaquero are hot and deep coin finding detectors. So what makes the Omega a lot more sensitive to EMI?

BTW I vastly prefer the Omega over the Vaquero for coin shooting when there's no EMI to contend with. I really like the Omega a lot.

My take yesterday: 1 Kennedy half dollar, 36 quarters, 50 dimes, 9 nickels, 72 pennies including a 1946 wheat penny. Total coins: 168.

Good post Tabman!

The 11" DD coil is more sensitive on EMI for sure but gets better coverage.

If the target is close to the surface, try lifting the coil a few inches, numbers should be about normal then. I find that if the target is deeper, the numbers a pretty much the same as with 10" coil. HH

Most detectors will act up in one place or another due to some type of interference. From experience.
No doubt there is a place where the Vaquero will act up, and the Omega does not.

As far as slightly differnt ID# from different coils, yes, slight difference as you noted, but what difference really ? Wouldn''t you dig any target, be it 88 or 90 ? It wouldn't take too many holes till you were used to the different coil.
