Santa Said 10x12 SEF is on the way.

I finally broke down and decided to give the 10x12 SEF Butterfly coil a go with my E-trac. It should be here late this week. I've been using the standard PRO coil with very good results. I've decided to spend a little more time this next year is some of the more difficult areas that I've been hunting, lots of iron trash, but some goodies in there. Old targets are deep. I typically favor other places by far, but have enjoyed the challenge of finding some goodies hiding in the junk. I've been getting some deep silver dimes and wheaties, nickels, but seem to be missing the IH's I expect should be there. I've picked up some IH's at other locations, but they're not quite this trashed.

Any thoughts or suggestions about the coil or picking up the IH"s are appreciated.

Happy Holiday Season,

After reading all the posts - it seemed to me that 3 out of 4 of the real expierienced user's in this forum and the Explorer forum - liked the S.E.F. better than the Pro Coil.
I was happy with the Pro Coil but after reading all the posts in the forums - I went to the S.E.F. 10 x 12 about 5 months ago.

I really like the S.E.F. coil - but to be fair - to see the true difference - I would like to hit the same targets side by side with someone else thats using a Pro Coil.

A few reasons I like the S.E.F. better than the Pro Coil ...

( 1 ) The S.E.F. has a taller - better built - and easier on and off coil cover - much less sand and dirt gets under the cover - a big plus !
( 2 ) The S.E.F. 10 x 12 weighs approx. 4 oz. more than the Pro Coil - but it's not that noticable at all - this coil has a real nice solid feel to it when your swinging it.
( 3 ) And the best feature of all - It looks really cool !

Mark,

I will always take additional COOL  when I can get it. But my main goals are a little better depth and some better target separation of coins in with the discrimated iron and such. Most have talked about the coil running smoother as well which is good. I have noticed that the Pro coil has a significant area around it that is very sensitive to surface items and I can be a foot away from a zinc penny or clad quarter and still get what initially sounds like a separate deep good target. Not sure if the SEF will do any better, but we will see. In these cases if I have any question of whether there is one or two targets, I remove the surface item. MOST of the time the adjacent deep target disappears with it.

Thanks for the input,

Rich - As mentioned - from what I've read - it looks like 3 out of 4 users say that the S.E.F. is better at depth, target separation, target ID, pintpointing, etc, - than the Pro Coil.
Maybe do a test yourself ... when you get your S.E.F. coil try to get together with someone thats using a Pro Coil and go over the same targets and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure Bryce ( he's the moderator of the Explorer forum ) already did this side by side test - just search his posts and see if you can find it.

Good luck ! --- Mark

Rick get ready to dig some deep silver and Indians with this coil the best thing about the 10x12 for me was the better sound i get on deep coins that i didn't get on the pro coil. If Indians are there you will find them with this coil and they will sound like a Indian should. A 8-9 inch Indian sounded crappy to me with the pro coil, the 10x12 will clean that up and handle the iron much better, just my honest opinion...good luck.....Phil.

Thank you for the feedback everybody.

Appreciated.

From what i hear the SEF is more stable,That tells me it is not as sensitive.
But i am sure the SEF is a good coil!
