Short hunt gets some unusual keepers

Today after work I hunted for an hour at a lot where they tore down an 1884 house last week, it is one of those skinny but long lots. the front yard is only about 20 feet deep, so i covered it pretty well in the hour I was there. The backyard is really long but has brush all over it. The owner told me it should be cleared out this week so I can go back and hit the back sometime soon.

Got a silver quarter...BARELY...1964..lol, 4 wheats, aluminum junk token, a token that says ONE PENNY, has my ton name on it and is dated 1856, no idea what it is??? And also got my first ever Chinese coin, I have seen a lot of these posted, any idea how to tell how old it is?

what an odd bunch of coins! Great finds. I wonder what the one is with the cup/bell and sword thingy on it?

Very unique finds, I too this year found my first Chinese cash coin. Looks like it was a great time!

It is a Masonic York Rite Penny. The letters- King Soloman had ten wifes some say twenty. Those are some very nice finds. HH :minelab:

The Chinese coins I was told were used on early baskets and other trinkets as decorations. They would run ribbon though them around the edges of things for good luck.
Then of course they ended up with the kids in the yard.

Maybe the back yard will produce some Indians, Nice hunt

Found this on the letters on the penny,Hope it is related!

VAN WERT #218
Masonic Temple
148-1/2 E. Main Street
Van Wert, Ohio

Here is the address for the Van Wert lodge. I am sure that if you contacted some of the brothers there they might be able to give you more info on the token. Years they were given out, etc. On a side note as a Mason I have hunted many of the local lodges around my area and gotten some decent finds. Typically most Masonic lodges are rather old buildings with lots of history in the ground. I would recommend contacting the lodge and you might get access to hunting around it. If you want the email address of a contact within the lodge feel free to PM me.

Wow nvm I just looked the address up on google earth and unless you like digging in asphalt you are out of luck detecting around the lodge. Still might be worth it to contact em for some additional info on the token.
