Silver and Indians Sat. and a rusty 1853 seated lady Sunday afternoon :detecting:

Got out Sunday and took the back roads to a small town park.Ran across a cemetery that had a foundation outline in the grass across the road and investigated.Found 2 Merc dimes and the rest except the Seated quarter and 1 Merc. in about an hour before it dried up.Went on to the park and a little clad for my trouble so headed home and stopped off at a beat to death park just before dark and found the 3rd Merc.

Went to the old town site yesterday that was burnt in 1863 and hunted for over 2 hours with nothing worth posting and then got a signal 20 yards from my car on the way out.I was running in 2 tone ferrous with max sens. and was working way to hard as the hay stubble was over 4" tall and rough.
Anyway the square nails are a solid carpet where the building were burnt and the the ground farmed for years up till about 10 years ago.It bugs me thinking about missing the chance to hunt the site while it was nice plowed ground but better late than never.
Anyway I got a high peep in all the low iron grunts and when I hit pinpoint it acted like a coke can or similar size target.I dug a large plug with my relic shovel and got a better signal on the bottom of the 9" thick plug and the numbers were 12-46 so I got a bit more interested and passed my sunray probe over the plug and it was sounding good.

Out popped the quarter and I checked the plug in pinpoint and still strong signal from 3 square nails and found 2 more in the hole.It was very hard to resist wiping the mud off but I made it home to take the pics and wash her off.
What are the odds that the seated dime I found this spring at same site was a 1853 as well....

Even rusty that is one saweet seated!!

What a sweet quarter. I wish I could find a seated anything. It's on my wishlist bigtime. Way to pull that coin from amongst the iron. Congrats.

Whew! Great finds Ray, a seated is a great coin any day any condition at that age. That is some site your hunting where you can still get a hit even when you are above the grass by 4 inches. Thanks for sharin.

good luck

What a Nice coin. I may get the coppers, but those seated's seem to elude me. The rust staining on that coin is a testament to the E-trac's "see through" capabilities. Ray, I am asking myself.....would I have walked by that coin, not knowing what the "E" was trying to tell me. Good job.

Ray-Mo,

Awesome quarter, great condition
They sure are beautiful coins
and congrats on the others and the ring (silver?)
will the stains come off the .25 by cleaning ? or is that the wrong thing to do ?
We use a product called CLR downunder :ausflag: to clean up silver coins but I have not tried it on rust stains.
