Since most of you that upload pictures are familiar with having to re-size your pictures to load them up on our site I have a question...

What software programs or internet sites possibly are you guys using to re-size the pictures?

I use Photoshop and then after re-sizing the picture down I use the "Save it for the web" option removing some of the printing information substantially shrinking the file.

Just curious what else is out there.

I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 9, but have never used the "Save it for the Web". Might give that a go next time.........

I don't use any special program. I download my pictures from the camera to the computer and then I send the pictures to myself all at once using Windows Mail, it asks me what size of pictures I want to send and I choose Medium. It automatically sizes all the pictures so when I save them to the picture folder, they are ready to post.

For those of you that don't wish to spend any money there's a free program called Irfanview. It has many options for resizing images.

I use an iPhone, so I downloaded an App that works flawlessly. Very easy to use and its free!

I use Gimp 2. It is freeware and has a substantial amount of editing options. It's a pretty awesome program to be free.

Guvner, I use SNAGIT....... It is a multi-functional program. It is a screen capture program, and will also let you "Bulk Convert" many photos and change what type they are.....i.e. from png to jpg, etc. You can also use it to edit photos. You can capture text with it, window objects, record screen video, as well as other functions. I love that program.

You can change them to a Percentage of the original, or specify what size. You can also change the color depth....i.e. 64 bit to 256k....etc.

It has some other features as well, but those are the main ones I use.

I personally save all the pictures off my digital camera to a file folder in my computer. I right click on a picture, click open with, then click on Paint. There is a resizing option in the Paint program and I usually resize them down to 30%. Then I save the file as a different file name. Might not be the fastest way, but it is simple for me to do

I (mostly) use Nikon View NX - free software included with Nikon cameras. It can also be downloaded from Nikon website.

Yep, this is true. I would suggest you guys try out Gimp and then tell us what you think.

Easy method if using Windows:

There is a program built right in windows called Paint:

Open your picture folder - Right click a picture thumbnail - Choose "Open With" and then choose Paint - Click Image & then Resize/Skew - Enter the % that you want to increase or decrease the picture size - Save the changes "Save As" use a different name to preserve the old file.

Using Paint is okay but there is a difference, Altamaha. With Irfanview or Gimp you can increase the jpg compression level to drastically decrease the file size of the picture without decreasing the actual dimensions of the picture itself.

I too use Irfanview, but I suggest that rather than just resizing, first crop the photo to remove all but the item you want to show, then resize. That will get you the best resolution for the file size.
