Weird pewter animal Whatzit ?

snaps

New member
Hello,
Looks like a dog or ground hog.
It's hollow like a whistle and the
Open end has a lip like a bottle.
It's 1 inch long, inch high an 5/8
wide.
Thanks all, Joey

From the way it sits in your photo, I would guess it is a duck.

Thanks guys
Other than the character, what the heck
Is it? The only thing I got so far is maybe
it's part of a sewing bird? I don't see it.
I'm surprised no ones dug one similar

It would help to have more pictures from other angles.

From its eyes and the way its's looking up i say part of a seal.

Here's a few more pics

Bubble blower doesn't seem likely
Cause it only has one opening
The other hole in it was caused by
Damage
Thanks though !!!

I think you are looking at it wrong(oh, your original post suggested dog so you already saw that). It looks like a dog to me. I don't have any idea what it was used for, though.

Top of a walking cane? No...too small for that...I dont know, a guy would think the mold seam would be ground off better if it was something important...so it must be something generic. Cool find!
Mud

Thanks everyone,
I sure was looking at it
Wrong( color me stupid!)
Looks like a boxer now
And faucet handle is my
Favorite yet - I think
Ur on to something!

Rather small for a faucet handle unless it is an extension of a larger component.
Could be a lamp finial. Is the hole threaded?

No threads at all.
Mud may have nailed it.
From what I've gathered
There was such a thing
As mini carnival walking canes
Must of been a novelty( unless
Your a gnome of course )
Thanks everybody !! Joey

Yup!

Google "Carnival Canes" under images, many different types out there. My guess is this item is the top from an early one from around the 1920s.

Some years back I dug what remains of a water bird whistle that dates from that era and the construction/casting looks very similar.

I first thought of cane handle too, I think the head was crimped onto the handle or fastener. The casting marks are clearly seen, sometimes the company or cast maker marks the inside of molds with a casting number, this helps keep the molds matched together.
