Which Headphones

What is a good headphone for the explorer, wanting a better pair!

I really like my Sun Ray Pro Gold for detecting / any detector - no regrets.
I really like my Grado RS-1 for home stereo - to expensive for outdoor detecting abuse.

Sunray Pro Golds are the best sounding to my ears for the Explorers and E-Trac.They just give me a perfect high silver sound .I have used about all the high end phones and stuck with 2 pairs of pro golds for my Minelabs. Some of the others sounded better on my Fishers by the way,Ray.

I use RatPhones (latest MSA style). I have Sun Ray Pro Golds as well, but prefer the RatPhones. There's a pretty good explanation of the 'why' behind the RatPhones on their website. The Sun Rays (and the equivalent model Killer Bees, etc) all sound more tinny to me, whereas the RatPhones have a much richer sound.

But something like headphones are better experienced first hand. They need to fit well and not pinch too. Try some others if you're able to.

For me and my bad hearing I need a set that is loud, this is where the Troy Pros work the best for me on the Explorer and the E-Trac I use now. On my Sovereign I find the Timberwolfs work the best with great volume. Now 3 of the guy I hunt with one has a set of the Sun Ray Pro Gold and love them on his Explorer while another one has the Gray Ghost Ultimate and feels they are great while the other guy uses the Gray Ghost NDT and love them, so any of these are great. If I didn't have the Troy Pros my second choice would be the Sun Ray Pro Golds with a amp to get more volume for me.
I will be doing another field test on a new set that is suppose to be very loud for people like me with a hearing problem, but have a volume control and are very light weight too, just maybe what many of us are looking for, but will know when they show up and get a chance to try them out.
