    Dug a little today...

I've been off this week and couldn't resist the urge to dig even though the heat and bugs have been tough. Managed to scrape up these few relics in about 4 hours. Rosette, probably a Victorian era brooch, variant high bases, 3 ringers and toe tap. I was drenched with sweat! Mike

    Bentonville finds...

Had pretty good luck yesterday at Bentonville. Austrian bayonet scabbard throat, enfield and 3 ringers (the white ones are .54 cal.), silver plate, and camp lead. Also found a lock plate last week there. Before and after clean up pics. Date is wrong on the before pics. Can anyone id the plate...

    Lead question...

Does anyone know what kind of lead stock was used for bullet making? I found these lead pieces in a small area about 20 by 20 feet and the fired Enfield was nearby. There has never been any kind of structure near here. Some of these have been sliced. Thanks for any help. Mike

    A few meager finds...

I have really been in a relic finding funk lately. These are some of what I have been lucky enough to save from a few hunts. I posted the eagle A earlier but the rest were found recently. A couple of Henry shells, harness buckle, a cleaner, 3 ringers ( 1 fired), what my imagination wants to...

Some relics and a first for me...

I dug these this morning. The eagle A is the first I've found. Unfortunately it is flattened (poker chip maybe?). I think the slender brass is a part of a heel plate but that is only a guess. Thanks for looking. Mike

    Quick hunt...

Only had about an hour to detect but I got some goodies in a hurry! Henry with lead still in the cartridge, eagle button, and a couple of minies. These were deep signals that I probably would not have found without the Nautilus and 15" coil. This has been a good site for me! Mike

Some digs today and a nice large cent...

I dug this beauty in a CW campsite along with an eagle I, fired round ball, clasp and a whatszit. Can anyone id the brass whatzit? Thanks for looking and HH! mike

    Zouve buttons...

A friend and I hit a few hammered camp sites yesterday. He found his first 3 ringer and I found these large brass ball objects. Someone on another forum id them as Zouve buttons. They seemed kinda large for buttons but what else could they be? Here's the rest of the finds as well. Mike

    Couple of buttons

I dug this cuff size button in a Union 15th Corps camp site. I thought it was an eagle cuff until I cleaned it up. Howard College was founded in 1841 in Marion, Ala. It actually burned down in 1854 with many injuries to its students. Today it is Samford College. There is no back to the button...

    Found a stirrup!

I got a deep good signal with the Nautilus & 15" coil. As the hole got deeper I was suspecting iron and after digging over knee deep.. sure enough it was iron but what a piece of iron! This is my first stirrup and it was dug here on the farm on a Yankee camp site. How is the best way to clean...

    More bullets today...

I checked out another potential site today and bam.... right off the bat I started finding cleaners! I was excited as it looked like my research had paid off but alas... it was not to be. These were all that was found and all of this was found in a 20 foot circle. I thought I had found a nice...

Found a few and a whatzit...

These were found on the outskirts of a 15th Corps camp. Not sure about the large brass object. I thought it looked like a fence post finial but made of brass??? Besides, there are no house sites nearby that would have had such a fence. Any thoughts? Thanks and HH! Mike

Close up of the eagle coat button

This is the 2nd button with the bm Harrington & Rogue that I've found at this site. Both are complete and in good shape. I like finding any kind of CW period button! Mike

    Got out today...

The weather has been perfect finally but my best spots are still in crops. I just had to scratch the itch and wandered through knee high grass and weeds at the end of some fields to find these. Killed the biggest skeeters I ever saw too. Big brown suckers about the size of a quarter. I could...

    A few from this morning...

The temperature was tolerable this a.m. so I hit a favorite CW camp site and found these. I have found several dozen dropped bullets here and almost as many cleaners as 3 ringers! Why would there be so many cleaner bullets here? They are as scattered as the other relics. I don't usually keep...

    Help with Excaliber

I just bought a used Excaliber through an online auction and I can't get any sound from it. I assembled it yesterday, turned it on and noticed no threshold only a very dim click through the headphones when it came on. I charged the battery overnight and today have the same results. It doesn't...

    Whatiz???

I found these in a known CW campsite. 2 have definitely been fired and all 4 measure at.44-.45 cal. Someone said they were modern black powder but I can't believe it. Look at the patina. These have been in the ground for a long time and I know that no one hunted this field with a black powder...

    My week finds

I posted some of my finds from this site previously but here a couple of pics of 2 buttons that I found here and then the total minus some camp lead and 1 eagle button. The RB button is a Philadelphia Reserve Brigade and the I is a Confederate local with wire shank. The Enfield is a plug base...

    A few from this morning...

These were found in a field right beside the field that I have been finding relics in for 2 years. I have checked this other field before but did not go deep enough into it evidently. Can anyone id the object that appears to be a canteen spout? It looks to be made of pewter. The rest are 3...

    Relics and ID needed

I've been working a small camp site and have found several suspender like items that I am not sure if they are CW or not. They were found amongst period relics so they may be. The clip at the bottom still had cloth in it as shown beneath it. All of these were found in sandy soil which sure...
