1861 Camp #1 GOLD AGAIN

Corn finally got harvested at Missouri State Guard Camp #1. My partner sold his Tejon & now has a Safari. We went up to the camp last Saturday and he found an 1856 Gold Dollar. That makes the 3rd gold coin from this site.1845-2 1/2 dollar, 1853-1 dollar & now the 1856. We are still trying to get a grasp on why all the gold. I spent about 3 hours the next day running the E-trac wide open in manual 30. Hit some deep ball shot that was missed but that was it. The E-trac runs really well wide open & hot in this soil. This last dollar was the deepest of the three and was down low in the borrow ahead of the terrace that held the other two. The two dollars were within 50 feet of each other. The 2 1/2 was about 200 feet away.

We are waiting on the harvest at site #3. This is the Skirmish site that yielded the $20 gold piece. We have yet to locate the camp but have high hopes on two locations that we have not tried yet do to crops.

That is a really good Find.

Awesome find! Nothing matches the look of gold.

Glad to see that research paying off for you.

Congratulations on the awesome find! :clapping:
It's a once in a lifetime sight to see the glint of a Gold coin in a freshly dug hole. I wish that everyone who
swings a metal detector could experience this.

Great find. Hope everybody will have such a find.!

Wow !!!

Your gold finds are incredible! Congrats on your research and success! The military often went long periods without pay during those times. When the paymasters caught up with the units, so did the tent saloons, gambling, and working ladies. Great conditions for losing coins! Thanks for sharing your story!
