A hypothetical question....

This is just Hypothetical and was thinking what if there were no Minelab detectors at all and you had to choose another brand & model, what would be your choice?

Again, this is just a hypothetical question and I don't want this to turn into a bash and debate.

Never having owned another kind of detector but Minelab. I can relate to this question...but, for me it would probably be a White's machine.

Probably a higher end model White's - MXT or DFX - probably not the V - 3 - they have been having to many problems with their top machine.
I talked to a dealer last winter that sells Minelab & White's and he told me ... " The White's V-3 was a good idea that just didn't work out".
Maybe they got the bugs out out of the newer version of the V-3.

The V3 has worked out quite well Mark and the V3i (International) is even better. Most of the early problems were tracked down to some coils that lost their null and other problems were users not reading/understanding the owners manual.

Tough question. I'd definitely have to go with a top of the line Fisher or Whites.

Fisher F-75 LTD or the F-75 Special edition

absolutely NOT a whites.........lol, after seeing 3 buddies of mine struggle with their machine, no way, 2 had DFX's and one had a XLT

I'd probably try a fisher

I know for a fact there would be thousands and thousands more silver in the ground if Minelab machines didn't exist! :minelab::lol:

I probably would have also done a lot more fishing, but thank God to Minelab for the renewal of my interest, turned addiction, to the hobby!!

Man, You would have thought if a guy starts a post about what detector he would use if there were no Minelab's, the least he would do is post as well.

I started detecting back in the late 70's and haad a white's then my interest's peaked into different hobbies at that time and detecting sort of fell way off to the side.

I'd probably be still swingin' a Whites till this very day.

Thanks for responding to the thread everyone

V3 and Omega 80000... and a few others for special situations (F75 LTD/SE and Tejon... SovereignGT for the beach)... but those two will do it all. Really, every time I use the Omega I become more amazed. It seems to do all things well. It is very light, runs forever on one 9v battery, has three coils (so far), and has a really good TID at depth. It has an expanded iron and foil range like the T2 which is very useful in sites that hold old coins and relics... and it is as deep as any detector I have.

The V3 is a tweakers dream machine capable of most anything and has a BUNCH of available coils. But it is heavier and much more expensive.

That's what I think.

Almost every new high end machine has a few glitches when it is released especially when software is involved but the V3 is a good machine it just takes a little getting used to. IMO, it is nowhere near as hard to learn as the Explorer was... and it is really sexy. Still the Omega is much more machine than it should be for 500 bucks. It may well have the most perfect balance of features and performance every included in one machine. It is the most fun machine i've ever used and add in the great finds I make with it and I almost feel guilty using it. It should be heavier, harder to use, and surely should cost more.
