Another Spanish silver....

It's been exactly one year and a day since I went to this particular spot to detect.

Last December 4, 2009 I hit this local old farm site, less than 10 minutes from my house and one of the last remaining farm sites anywhere around my area, to practice with my new 12x15 SEF and was amazed when I found a 1759 eight reales cut in half.

There is just so much garbage in this plowed field that you have to be prepared to load your pouch with very many crushed aluminum cans...we all know how they give that banging 12/41-43 signal - but after 2 shovels full and a target still in the hole at 9" - your hopes of finding something great start to fade....I've since come to know the owner of this farm and he doesn't allow anyone onto this property (after getting sued by someone once) but after explaining my Artifact Detecting Team project he agreed to allow me to detect. He mentioned that the area was a farm from the early 1700's and he had boxes of arrowheads that he's found along the way. So it looks like I'm the only person currently swinging there.

Because of the massive amount of junk and my access to the awesome detecting sites out in the Hampton's (where we do the ADT project) I really didn't need to get back onto this spot to detect. So without an ADT event scheduled for this weekend and with my wife having a "girl's thing" to do this afternoon I said what the heck and used the opportunity to spend a few hours at this local site.

About 30 minutes and 20 aluminum cans later I get a solid 12/42. One shovel full of the muddy dirt then a quick scan with the X-1 and I see the sight of small old silver...and it's a pretty sight to see...other than the hole she's a beauty (although I do like seeing them pre-1800). This is my first half reale. All I need now is a two and a four reale to complete my collection of the complete range.

I guess I'll need to continue to go back there and keep cleaning out that trashy site...

Good luck and HH.

Barry

Congratulations Barry! Looks like another beauty to add to your collection. I'm sure after digging all that trash it was a very welcome sight--your persistence paid off! Something like that would be extremely rare out here in the west. Thanks for story and picture--I always enjoy seeing the incredible finds you make.

Barry

that is one sweeeeeet find
Congratulations on one very old beauty

Beautiful coin Barry ! :beers:

You've got great patience Barry. Gets frustrating when there are that many aluminum cans in the field. Thanks for the pictures and the story. Congratulations on a well earned find!

Nice find Barry...................I wonder how so many aluminum cans found there way into a field???

HH - Hawkeye Jim.

Jim - this field is bordered within a very suburban locale.
There are no fences around this field - the kids must have been "playing" here for decades...

Very nice Barry..... looks like frost up here so hopefully some beach swinging in the forecast. I'm learning now to take every opportunity I get and go out. I will definately be seeing you in the spring you have some mighty fine sights out your way, and allot of coins and things just begging to be found. Best wishes and happy holidays to you and yours. HH Joe

Barry you are the Man, I remember that last year...amazing...maybe you should wait another year before you hunt that spot again........................congrads......................are you going to hit the water next summer? Sure miss you over on the beach & water forum.................joe

Hey Joe thanks for the kind words - I'm all set with the materials necessary to try and make a straight shaft for the E-Trac so I can use the 12x15 SEF on the beach this winter in the wet sand area..without the weight!!

I'll pack the control housing and battery section into a large plastic bag and carry it in a backpack case and use a 6' 5 pin extension cord to attach to the coil. On the beach I'll use little discrimination and go by the tones so there is no need to look at the screen to determine if I should dig. Hopefully this will work.

That's hot Barry you deserve it
Happy holidays

That's a very cool coin! Congratulations and thanks for sharing your hunt.

Yeah Barry I am looking into doing that myself, but now been into ttf for so long it will be like wearing my wallet in the wrong pocket listening to multi conduct.

I hear you Joe - it will be like learning a new foreign language...if it wasn't for trying to eliminate al least the bottle caps I'd stay in TTF myself...
With the Excalibur it's easy to know when you have a bottle cap.

Nice Finds!!! Congratulations!
