That's me. I have a hard time with the SE sounds at age 53. Plus the screen is really difficult to see in a lot of circumstances.
Duke Ive had them all also and I kinda waiver back and forth between the etrac and the SE explorer.
Both screens are hard to see, you have to work around it best you can. adjust the contrast and so forth, angle it to where your hunting........
the different angle on the handle doesnt do anything for me, its still a heavy detector.
I find the Etrac as smooth as silk in auto sens but in manual, unless I drop it really low, its a noisy beast. Now the SE is pretty smooth also in auto sens and its quieter in manual sens than the etrac is.
Like Todd says I think the Explorer line has improved on each one, particuarly the menu setups and reset speed. I think the etrac has the fastest reset speed of them all but the SE is very close.
Bottom line I think they are both heavy, excellent detectors.
I just turned 54 and like to run both of mine wide open or maybe in iron mask with a tiny bit of disc. no programs, modes, just adjust sens, threshold, standard stuff, depth is awesome and they hit small conductors well(I mostly beach hunt).
I would hunt more in auto sens if I was you, that would cut down on the sounds and make it easier to focus on what you are hearing. Dont worry about loss of depth in doing so, that is so overmentioned as being a negative but I dont find it is at all.
