Any one replace their SE with an E-Trac?

Just wondering..... If you've replaced your SE with an E-Trac were you glad that you did or sorry?

I'm contemplating what my next step will be if my SE gives out.

yep, the main reason was ergonomics. I've always known the FBS units were tough to beat for target separation. Had about all of them. But as time went on, this crippled up body was using the SE less and less due to the balance, or lack there of. Especially with the larger coils. When I heard they changed the degree of angle that the grip attached on the Etrac, I tried one on for size. Fit real well and I made the trade. Took a bit of reading to identify with the changes in the software. But I kept learning and never looked back. Gotta love the E-TRAC for those nasty trashy places. JMHO HH Randy

Yes i had the SE, I went to the e trac and have found more since then.
Don't get me wrong on this, the SE is a great machine, and i have often wondered
about some of the same units just being better than others.Units, coils!
For me i am now loving the e trac,i am going back over ground i had been over with the SE and finding
silver i missed with the SE.

I had an SE and thought it was the best machine I ever owned. Then I bought an Etrac and the SE started collecting dust so I sold it. I don't think the Etrac goes any deeper but it seperates targets better and might be a hair faster.

Yes, I did that, even though I had the SE Pro with the butterfly coil. I am really pleased with the Etrac, but never was impressed with the SE Pro. I immediately started finding silver dimes, quarters and war nickels that I had been missing. Now, I use the 2 or 4 tone with FE setting. I'm thinking of going to Long tone setting, as well. The SE sounds were just too confusing to this olde hard-of-hearing-veteran.....

That's me. I have a hard time with the SE sounds at age 53. Plus the screen is really difficult to see in a lot of circumstances.

I've had them all Sov,XS,SE,SEPro,and now the best unit Etrac each one has been a step forward.

I have a terrible time, very frequently, trying to see the screen on the SE while detecting during the day. Has this improved with the E-Trac?

I think its a little better not great but better. There are a lot of other reasons to make the switch.I was very good with my SEpro but wouldn't go back to it from the Etrac just that much more stable and better tool.

Duke Ive had them all also and I kinda waiver back and forth between the etrac and the SE explorer.
Both screens are hard to see, you have to work around it best you can. adjust the contrast and so forth, angle it to where your hunting........
the different angle on the handle doesnt do anything for me, its still a heavy detector.
I find the Etrac as smooth as silk in auto sens but in manual, unless I drop it really low, its a noisy beast. Now the SE is pretty smooth also in auto sens and its quieter in manual sens than the etrac is.
Like Todd says I think the Explorer line has improved on each one, particuarly the menu setups and reset speed. I think the etrac has the fastest reset speed of them all but the SE is very close.
Bottom line I think they are both heavy, excellent detectors.
I just turned 54 and like to run both of mine wide open or maybe in iron mask with a tiny bit of disc. no programs, modes, just adjust sens, threshold, standard stuff, depth is awesome and they hit small conductors well(I mostly beach hunt).
I would hunt more in auto sens if I was you, that would cut down on the sounds and make it easier to focus on what you are hearing. Dont worry about loss of depth in doing so, that is so overmentioned as being a negative but I dont find it is at all.

Yes, and never looked back. Well I did try it again after about a year but it only took one hunt to reassure myself that the E-TRAC is much better.

Yes. Had Explorers for years, had the SE for about 1.5 years. Had ETrac for about 9 months now - takes a little getting used to regarding the handle change and the numbers range (if you use the numbers). But the audio can be configured to essentially duplicate the tones you have on the SE, so no audio learning curve. It definitely is better at picking out targets in super trashy sites. I appear to be digging less iron with the ETrac than I was with the SE, using same PRO coil...

I replaced my EX2 with the E-Trac and haven't looked back since! I LOVED my EX2 and was very good with it but the trac's stability and SOLID ID capability along with the reduction of the the "bounce" has me hooked like a starving fish. I was nervous about making the hyper jump to the trac and now I am so thankful for that beautifully made machine! It still "sounds" like my explorer too, which I was most concerned with. Go on and give the trac a try, you wont regret it.

Same as all the rest. Had the SE with the Pro coil and it sounded like R2D2. Not the same with the E-Trac. There's lots of other functional differences as well. Don't believe us. Get and study, not just read, Andy's book. jim

Hey how bout all us E trac users start telling everyone else that they should stick with there older machines and not lettin on so much? That way we can wink at each other and know that there are more deep coins waiting for us to find in the future.
I likey!

Wink Wink! that ace 250 is a killin beast any day!

Wish I was out huntin with my slow, heavy, hard to understand E track! I know nobody likes it but now that I spent so much money on it I can only use it to find the surface pull tabs! haha, Wink!

good luck with that,

Add me to the list!---I replaced my SE with the Etrac.---The SE is a good machine and a lot of people really like it but I prefer the Etrac myself.--I've owned & used all the Explorers & until the advent of the Etrac, I liked the EX 2 best.---Now the Etrac "rules" (IMHO). :) --------Del

Hey shovelhead,
You talking about the surface clad finder 2000 called e-trac? LOL I know that thing is HEA-VY
