Manticore owners: Do i need 1?

Guys & gals that own a Manticore, how do you like it? What do you like the most about it?

Do you like & are you happy with the newest update. What's your favorite coil? Give me some feedback.

Lmao I keep telling myself I don't need a Manticore, but my want keeps telling me I need to get one.

Lol I do have a fully set up Equinox 900.

Thanks. Any & all help will be greatly appreciated.

I didn't like the shaft on the Manticore. I knew what it was going to be like because I had a 900. But I just had to see for myself if the Manticore would out perform Deus II.
I didn't see that much difference between the two.
Plus I hate the cheap shaft design of Minelab Manticore and 900. Can't stand that it doesn't have a way to keep it from twisting.
I sold both of the Minelabs and I am still using the Deus II.
I did recently buy a Minelab Xterra elite. It has a much better shaft design than the Manticore in my opinion. But it is still round on the lower shaft. But it does lock into the straight position.

Thanks MuddyMo, that's kinda of the coil I'm dead set on too. But I also want the small M8 elliptical coil.

Lmao I keep telling myself I don't need a Manticore, but that Lil demon keeps twisting my arm, saying Get it Get it!!!
I know this is an old post but you say the m8 is a mono not dd coil? I have one and seems to run very different than the 11”. Thank you

Can Anyone tell me the difference between the Manticore first program and the latest update ?
What functions are new and Better ??
Do I really need it ???

I appreciate people’s feedback on their experiences. Having only started in the past year at age 70, I tried to research the best I could from independent and non-biased reviews (if there really is an unbiased review). I did weigh out many options, cost being low on the list but I didn’t want to blow a huge wad then decide I didn’t like it. I had just bought a 2nd home in Seminole FL and enjoyed beach hunting. So I got a Nos 700. I closed on my house 1 week before Debbie hit. Then Helene. Then Milton. I’ve been back in Louisiana since Sept. while house is getting work done (not storm damage.l.renovations…supply chain bogged down due to thousands of houses lost, etc.

But where I live in Louisiana is a nice little treasure trove and while the 700 worked fine,I liked the minelab product so decided to make the leap to a manticore. I’ve no frame of reference or experience to compare with others though I did run into one of the principals of a fox show about metal detecting and treasure hunting while hunting at a local park. Hoping to buzz him and perhaps learn a little more. He had several minelab products and spoke positively about them.
Good luck its the easiest menu to navigate by far and one of the best on the beaches I hunt all winter here in Ct a lot on the beaches
and I own a D2 also but the Manticore is better on the beaches

I love the manticore, I have all the coils in the arsenal from m8 to the 18" , the 18" is deep beyond belief, keep your hand trowel in your pouch lol I use the long handle predator shovel , but all in all its awesome. And the colored screen /2d target profile great.

Owned 4 800s, still have one as dry sand back-up, and owned the Manticore for about 2 1/2 yrs with M15, M11 and (later) M8 coils, and mostly use M15 on beach and in water. I seldom dig a bottle cap with the Manti, although caps with gold foil (Michelob caps?) still fool me sometimes. As a Scienctist, I use every bit of information available to maximize a detector's features and the Manticore is second-to-none. The price of a Manti runs around $1500 while the Equinox 900 is about $1,000. So, will you get $500 more in value with the Manti compared to the 900? Over time, sure, but it will take some time to compensate for the price differencr but it will come. The learning curve for the Manti is shallow; meaning, it will take some time to learn and appreciate all the features but learning is what life is all about. I also had a choice between my 4th 800 or Manti. I chose the Manti primarily because I didn't want to drown one more 800. But with the 900 having better waterproofing, the choice would definitely have been much harder, particualrly because I use the 15" coil and switching to the Manti required buying another 15" coil. (the Equinox 800 15" coil fits the 900).

I bought both a used demo Manticore and a used demo Axiom from a dealer buddy of mine as a replacement for my GPX 6000 and my old Equinox 800. It was a great deal and they are really good detectors. I posted elsewhere here about a couple of very small gold grains I found within my first hour on the Manticorewhile using the M8 coil, here’s a photo of them. I haven’t really gotten that much time on the Axiom yet, so my Manticore is beating it, but that’s to be expected for a multi frequency VLF versus a PI race in good ground with very small gold. Add some mineralization and a lot of hot rocks, and I would bet it would be the other way around, but that’s another topic. I like having both the Manticore and the Axiom, they’re good partners to have together.

I think to save yourself from being skunked, using the M8 coil can certainly help prevent that! Both of these little bits I found with my Manticore were found about 2-inches down while using the M8 coil, and they weighed around 0.057g each.
