Manticore owners: Do i need 1?

OT - Sorry, but important...

Now that I am looking at the forum on my desktop rather than on my phone, I'm really embarrassed to see how large the inserted as full photos look on the desktop version of my post above!! From now on, I will do the same as what YT coinshooter did above. Trust me, my little fly poop-sized golden grains are NOT that big!! 😯
Sorry about that. OK, back to the normal program...

Yes, I realized less resistance in water. But here in NJ the Atlantic is too rough to get in the water. We just stroll the wet sand. I remember reading, way back when, that big coils are better at finding big things. Yes, most jewelry is small. I dig my fair share of foil pieces. In my 25 years of hunting the ocean beaches, I never have found a gold stud earring. Ive got tons of silver studs and even they give very small & low signals.

As most beach hunters will tell you, today, gold is virtually non-existent at the beach. I rather not waist my time digging itsy, bitsy, foil and concentrating on something larger,
In fact, Ive found 4 nice size nuggest at the beach. Best guess, cremetorium remains. The beach is an enormous area to try and cover. Competition is fiecre in my neck of the woods.
I need to cover as much ground as possible. Digging every little itty, bitty piece of metal, while possibly missing a bigger chunk, doesnt do much for me.
I think all those gold earring backs are just masked out by salt water. Too small to hear.

And on that note, I will be very curious to try out the new Nokta PI and finally say, Im tired of digging all those fishing hooks and bobby pins.
Been waiting 25 years for a discriminating PI !!! :) :) :) :) :)

Hi Donna, the 9” is great at finding ANY size target. We have a bit in common as I was a longtime Sov GT user too, had all the parts and the WOT 😁. I also hunt the Atlantic, mostly from the South shore of Cape Cod on Nantucket sound (our beach house 600 ft to the ocean) and Long Island Sound in CT in summer & fall. Our domicile is CT. In the winter and early spring I have the FL Gulf coast in Pinellas county 3 miles - 10 minutes from our home there and 2 weeks solid detecting in Cancun. ALL Very different environments, wave anction and minerals. The Cape can be calm, rough or anything in between. The Gulf coast is fairly calm. In Cancun I know where the calm water is (see pic w/hammocks) as most of the hotel zone is very rough. The pic with the island & causeway is FL 10 min from us. I’m mostly in the water but occasionally do the wet sand at low tide. Regardless of coil the Manticore & Equinox find tiny stuff that you need a pinpointer or very fine sifter. How much time I spend chasing tiny targets varies on my mood. The strainer in the pic I often suspend from my finds bag belt in and out of the water. I’m ready to take my DEUS 2 for a swim and again it finds tiny stuff in my cellar hole / colonial sites. Sensitivity can be dialed back on both without losing larger targets. I do some testing using a 1 gram 14K ring on fishing line. I’m not posting exactly how deep it hits on it as I’ve not taken exact measurements. Suffice to say I’m pleased. Maybe I’ll get some measured readings this year and report. If I’m only doing wet & dry sand I of course use a larger coil. If I’m mostly in and only sometimes out of the water it’s the 9”. Yes, AU is getting very hard to find, any good jewelry is tough these days. I’ll do freshwater lakes too, it’s just tougher hitting gold these days so I’ll try whatever.
Be well, be safe…never turn your back to the ocean 😉🌊

The right tool for the right job...Works land and sea. I was just floored when i saw a couple of guys using small coils on the beach. I thought they are missing so much coverage.
I can definitely see the reason for the 9" in the water but wet sand, nahhhh..... Just wanted to find out if there was some special about the 9" coil. I have a D2 and a Nox 900. So I think Ive pretty much got everything covered. Dont water much as I always think of going to the ocean and not the bay !!! Ocean is way more popular here on the jersey shore than the bay, Its mostly small children on the bay side due to no waves. Very rare when I found gold on the bay. Them waves knock everyone over and 'oops' there go the rings !!!! :) :) :) :)

Looking forward to the Nokta PI so I can finally say....Im tired of digging 3 feet for a fishing hook !!!! Time will tell !!!!:):):):):)
