Geohunt of my first hunt with the CTX 3030

It got up to around 40 degrees here for the first time in a month or two so I thought I'd give my new CTX 3030 a try even though the top few inches of ground were still frozen solid. What an amazing detector! I'm coming from the E-Trac so I'm already somewhat familiar with the machine and I am...

New CTX owner questions: What probe do you use? What water scoop do you recommend?

Hey everyone, I'm a longtime E-Trac user who just bought a CTX 3030. Now that I can't use the sunray inline probe, I'm wondering what probe people recommend? Also, I'm looking into getting a water scoop too. Is there one that's preferred? I know some people make their own. Lastly, are there any...

Great find today! 1914-D Key Date Wheat Penny

I hit up one of my favorite well hunted parks for a short hunt this morning and got this beauty off a very iffy signal. It was in the hole with a nail of course. The first one of these I've found and I'm very happy with it. Thoughts on grade or value? (Sorry for the harsh lighting in the...

    Very "Chirpy" Sunray X-1 probe

I'm running into some trouble in the last couple hunts where the X-1 probe on my E-Trac has been chirpy and falsing a lot as soon as I flip the switch on it. It used to be rather quiet unless there was iron or some other metal around but suddenly it seems to want to make high pitch noises no...

Four of a kind and oldest silver yet!

Found my oldest silver yet today at one of the oldest parks in my city dating back to the 1850's... an 1856 seated dime! I can't believe it. I also found a 1902 barber, 1919 D merc and a 1952 D rosie. It was a great 3 hour hunt. :) [attachment 173708 dimesfront.jpg][attachment 173709 dimesback.jpg]

2 cent coin in the park today

Hit up an old park that I hadn't had much luck at previously and was able to pull this 1871 2 cent coin from a really weird signal. I think there was some iron in the hole too. It's my first 2 cent piece and my oldest US coin. Thanks for looking and HH. [attachment 173418 2centback.jpg]...

For those that have found large gold objects with the eTrac: What sort of numbers did you get?

I've found a few gold rings this year but nothing too heavy or large (or deep for that matter -- mostly near surface stuff). The largest ring (8 grams, 14k) came in at a solid 12-09 / 12-10 and was an inch deep. I've done very well on finding deep silver but that's easy with the eTrac as we all...

    Depth Discrimination?

I'm not super knowledgeable about metal detector design but would it be possible to incorporate some sort of depth discrimination into a future version of the etrac (or other detector)? Often, depth is one of the most reliable readings and I like to dig almost anything beyond a certain depth. It...

Surprising find for a U.S. city park

This park has been hit hard over the years but it still gives up a few mercs from time to time. Today, however, I found this: Pretty cool find considering it was only a few inches down. Condition-wise, it looks awesome. You never know what you may find.
