New to Deus - some help please

I just received mine. I turned it on so everything is in default. GB=90. I'm in Oregon, our soil is moderate/highly mineralised. My test box has sand in it that mimics closely our ground. When I go to pinpoint, I get a positive signal when I lower the detector to the ground. I tried "Pumping"...

Hammerhead detector - how does it compare?

I'm interested in building Carl's Hammerhead detector. Thought I may try some optimization on it later, like increasing power to the coil and working on the preamp circuit. Haven't dug into its design really. I searched for Hammerhead on the forum and found (surprisingly) nothing. Wondering if...

    Single Frequency

I was not going to respond further, but since you want to chase me around the Internet... ;-) I'm attempting to get clarification from Carl on the Whites forum. I'm a retired electronics engineer, and understand fairly well how metal detectors work, circuitwise. I know what Carl wrote, but...

    Single Frequency

Rob, would you believe Mark Rowan at Whites? See the video for yourself at YouTube. DFX Instructional No. 8. It is fully explained there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87PLmK7wv28 George Aloha Oregon

    Single Frequency

Rob, your assessment about frequency and types of targets needs qualification. The frequency you use depends upon the ground you are hunting in! This is one of the least understood technical aspects of detecting. Firstly, 22.5KHz is more sensitive to ALL metals, therefore its reputation as being...

    Coil Opinions Please

Can't go wrong with that! George Aloha, Oregon

    Thank you Magic

Where does one find this "Magic" program? Thanks George Aloha, Oregon

    Help :)

First try propping the detector up at home so the coil is away from any metal. Wave a few objects in front of the coil to see if the unit is working properly. Try a nail and some coils and jewelry. If that works, then review your pinpointing technique. You may be detecting targets, but not...

    v3i/garrett pro pointer compatibility?

That is the combo I have. No problems. I always lay the detector down in a way that the coil is well away from the "dig". Once the plug is cut, I only use the pinpointer. I've used the Garrett when the V3i was in both C&J and Deep Silver. Haven't noticed a problem.

Would love to get a v3i but

I've had almost every Whites detector made since 1975. I "strayed" to Minelab for a while, but couldn't get used to their audio, balance or ID system. A few years ago, I decided I wanted to do 2 kinds of detecting - jewelry and deep silver. The Vision/V3 was new and having problems so I ended up...

    Best detector for Hawaiian islands?

Heading for Hawaii soon. Do I take my e-trac, MXT, or PI dual field? Is the sand there mineralized? Thanks George

8x6 SEF coil - any good?

I recently got an e-trac. I feel that the 11" pro coil may be a little large for the average trash infested park. Was thinking of getting the 8x6 SEF or maybe even the Minealb 8" coil. Can anyone report on a performance comparison of these? Thanks, George Aloha, Oregon
