Sovereign XS hidden among a huge bunch of fishing gear.

Wow...what a great find. Nice MacGyver work too. The Sovereign is a sweet silver hunting machine, and the Coinsearch coil is the best one to have for finding silver. I just got my XS back up and running.

    New Manticore owner. Questions.

    Thanks for the info, mark'.

    New Manticore owner. Questions.

I have finally purchased a Manticore, and have since ordered an 8" coil. Can't wait to try it on some new hunting grounds, and go over the "hunted out" sites to see what i've missed. This will be used primarily on 1800's farm and home sites, occasional CW relic hunting with my brother who lives...

Handy way to find those old cellar holes

This metal building shows up, and going by the shadows, it appears to be above ground.

Handy way to find those old cellar holes

Thank You so much for the link. With that site I have located or confirmed wells, foundations, old roads driveways, etc., on numerous hunting sites. I have been using CalTopo, which gives a similar image, but the details are not as clear. Thanks again!!!

The Sovereign XS is up and running again...

Just want to add that i screwed up in the original post. I'm unable to correct my mistake. Above the first pic, the connector on the right is for the new battery, NOT the connector on the left. Hopefully mods will edit it for me.

The Sovereign XS is up and running again...

Thanks!! I had the Minelab meter for a short while, but was convinced by DTIII users to get one of those instead. They were right on all accounts. The Sun Ray is a much better meter. I've tried several coils for the Sovereign, and the Coinsearch was always my 'go-to' coil for the trashy farm...

The Sovereign XS is up and running again...

I bought this XS new back in '97 (jeez, time flies), and it has been used on many 1800s home sites. Without a doubt, it has found more silver than any other detector I have owned... be it the E-Trac, Equinox 800, or Garret AT. I haven't used the XS since the E-trac was purchased, and I want to...

Coins in containers ~> What signal will I get?

Thanks for posting your test results, AVXVA. I'm curious to know what the readings would be with a vintage Mason jar and the zinc lid... If I weren't in the middle of moving i would try a similar test with an old Mason jar.

Coins in containers ~> What signal will I get?

Bury a test jar and try it. The $10 golds may not be handy but you can try using other items I once found a lid and the intact jar about 8" down but i forgot the number. I saw that and prayed like crazy that the jar would be full of gold and silver. It wasn't

Does Battery Power Effect E-Trac performance?

Thanks! I need something better than a factory battery. About 2 years after buying the Etrac the original would last maybe 4 hours after being plugged into the charger for better than a week. It finally crapped out and would not hold a charge at all. A factory replacement lasts maybe 2 hours...

    How old constitutes Vintage anyway?

Still have my Sovereign XS w. Sun Ray DTI 2 meter attached (bought it in '97). It has found more silver than any other detector I've owned. Of course those hot spots were 'virgin' sites. The newer detectors (Etrac, 800, and AT Gold) purchased over the years have recovered very little wherever...

E-Trac batteries ...can a 5v wall charger hurt them??

I've noticed that the E-Trac batteries would not charge...one of them showed only a bar after charging for a whole day, the other had nothing. I've considered tossing both and ordering RNB batteries. Finally realized that the wall charger i was using is for wireless headphones. I moved a few...
