which version V3 is recommended to someone new to whites

I have the MX Sport and the V3i. I like them both very much. The Sport is waterproof as you know and fairly simple to operate as a turn on and go machine. The V3i is a much more "adjustable to personal preferences" machine which makes it my favorite of the two. The original V3 was upgraded to...

    Pre Civil War find!

I hear ya daddyflea! I can't seem to get a good picture with my camera but I will try again. Correction; the date is 1853 not 1852.

    Pre Civil War find!

Finally found a pre Civil War coin!! I was visiting relatives out of town and basically killing time before dinner at a nearby park. The ground was semi thawed and with some effort I could dig the dirt out in chunks. After digging several coins, in an area I've detected many times before I got...

    Spectra v3i

I haven't noticed any loss of depth. But, these days I disc out very little if anything at all. I like to listen to everything then decide what to dig.

    Sweep speed and sizing feature?

Hank, one thing to remember......all of these "bells & whistle" features are fun to use as well as very usefull when searching for specific items such as rings, etc. But, over-analysis can cause one to bypass potentially very good targets. A good example when using Sizing Alalysis would be...

    Sweep speed and sizing feature?

Hank, this would be how you adjust the Recover Delay for hunting and has little to do with the Sizing Analysis feature. As far as the Sizing Analysis, sweeping faster can make an object such as a coin appear smaller. Sweeping slower can make it appear larger. A little practice sweeping over some...

    VX3 Coil

The 6x10 is my go to coil for most of my hunting. I like to use it to "check out" new to me areas. I can always decide whether to go bigger or smaller if conditions dictate. That said, I have the 5.3 and 4x6 to use in difficult or extremely trashy areas. The 8x6 SEF is a great little coil...

    VX3 Coil

I'd go with the 6x10 DD Eclipse or the 5.3 Eclipse though conditions would have to be just right..... 8" might be stretching it a bit especially in a trashy area.

    Ground Probe Question

Tony, It seems to help to set the RX gain to around 7 as a good starting point. Ground Balance then take the reading. The VDI numbers on the Ground Probe reading indicate how mineralized the soil is..... mid to low minus 90s indicates ferrous, around -90 more neutral, below -90 is nearing...

    Ground Probe Question

Hi Tony, Find a spot of clean ground, hold the coil about waist high, highlight Ground Tracking on the live search screen, then tap the Zoom button and the Ground Probe screen pops up. The Zero button should already be selected (highlighted). Press enter to Zero the readings. Then place the...

I get my V3i today :beers:

Mike, your chart is very interesting and informative. Very good depths for most coin shooting situations using relatively low gain & disc (threshold) sensitivity settings. Then by switching to single frequency using the same disc & gain settings achieves additional depth. Thanks for sharing.

    Made Her :cheekkiss:Day and Ours

John R. Sinnock Coins - Silver...

I admire Kenneth's perseverance in our hobby as well as the friendship you two share. An inspiration for all of us!!! :beers: The digging tool is a clever bit of ingenuity! I'm gonna keep that in mind for when the day comes that I need some such device to help me retrieve finds.

John R. Sinnock Coins - Silver...

Nice finds! Can't wait to hear/see what pops out of the ground next at that location after you mow. Give my compliments to Kenneth on that gold ring. It takes a lot of discipline to dig those low conductors at old home sites - they tend to be very trashy. Good luck guys.

    found Gold

The VDI doesn't seem strange but the single blue polar plot line in 3 freq sure does. I can't remember ever seeing that happen on my V3i. Good luck.....I hope you get that figured out Waterdog. Let us know what the solution is.
