    GTAx 750, decent machine?

I've got one on the way, I don't see many for sale. Maybe owners are hanging on to them. Anybody used/owned one? Expecting similar performance to my old 1000 PM Skillet

Is it just me, or does anyone else miss the Garrett-Green?

I kinda' liked it, sorta made Garrett the "John Deere" of metal detectors Found buckets of treasures with my old 1000 PM Think I'll dust it off and take it to the soccer fields. Skillet

A simple salute to the "Beep-Dig" machines...

Been 'tectoring since the mid nineties. During that time I've owned (and still own) a number of excellent TID machines, but 'discovered' beep-dig machines in the form of a humble and homely Garrett Freedom Ace plus. I was immediately impressed by the machine's quiet, unassuming performance...

F2 first impressions (for the second time)

Some time back, I posted on some of the problems I was having with my new F2. I sent it in for evaluation, it has been repaired and I'm happy to report that performance is much improved. I put the machine through some routine tests that I use on all of my machine (13 at last count) and here is...

    Questions for F2 users...

Last week, I sent my F2 in to First Texas for a checkup, as it seemed that it wasn't working properly. I sent a detailed list of the problems (as I saw them) with the unit. Today, they called and told me that they could find nothing wrong with the machine. I reiterated what I thought was wrong...

    Simple probe mod....

I like to mark my probes to make it easier to tell how deep that find really was. The Vibra-Probe is marked with a self adhesive scale, designed to stick to a fishing rod. They are inexpensive and can be found in sporting-goods stores. HH! Skillet

    Yet another Tejon ground-balancing question...

Sometimes it's hard to find a patch of ground "clean" enough for GBing in the places I hunt. Might it help to lower sensitivity closer to minimum and maybe get less interference from sub-surface trash while ground balancing, or does it matter? Patiently Awaiting Wisdom Skillet

Aurora Aqua Pulse hand-sized underwater detector?

Has anyone tried one of these units yet? Seen a review? I like snorkeling in swimming holes and it looks like an interesting (if pricey) unit. Used a Vibra-Tector for awhile, but it had very little depth. $%elly-co has these in their catalog...

Comparison, two old timers: White's IDX Pro vs the Garrett GTAx 1000

Metal Detector Comparison: Garrett GTAX 1000....White's IDX Pro Most treasure hunters begin the hobby with a single machine, often it is an older 'dated' machine that leaves the owner wondering if a newer model might help him or her make better, more valuable finds with less effort. Others...

Redundant I'm sure, but the new (to me) IDX Pro is a sweet machine!

Been lurking about here for what seems like decades. Having owned and used many machines from various manufacturers, I had yet to own a White's land machine until just recently... Many posters over the years have been extolling the virtues of the IDX Pro, so I finally got my hands on one and...

About to become a first-time Fisher user, F2 should be here Friday!

Right now I've got 10 different machines; Garretts, Tesoros, Whites, an Explorer... and God bless 'em, I like and use them all. They all have their quirks and strengths and fit the bill for different types of hunting. Not a Fisher in the stable up 'till now... But this deal with the F2 just...

    5" Excellerator coil... any good?

I have the stock and 8" coil for my XS and was wondering about the 5" Excellerator compared to the other available 5 inch coils. Is it as good as the others? Skillet

Sidewinder modded for diving. Behold, the "Cottonmouth"!

For years I used a Vibra-tector for snorkeling local freshwater swimming holes. While it produced some nice jewelry, I was less than satisfied with its sensitivity and utter lack of discrimination (being a PI, it hits WAY too hard on nails and other small iron). I decided to stuff the guts of...

"Otterizing" a land machine for wading...

This shows how you can waterproof a land machine for wade-hunting with an "Otterbox 3500". A friend of mine did it first with an Ace 150. I've since altered a Discovery 1100 and an Ace 150 for wading. These machines are both good candidates for conversion as the stock coils don't float. The 1100...

    Sunray X-8 for the Explorer?

New to the forum and have an XS on the way. Been reading a downloaded owner's manual and already somewhat overwhelmed. Looks like some good tips and programs to be found on the forum here though, should help alot. I was thinking that a smaller than stock coil might help with the learning...

Another "Otter-Ace" (Ace 150 converted to wading)

This is a shameless copy of the rig that BCD invented and used to good effect last summer. The 'guts' are enclosed in an "Otter-Box" 3500 and the holes are sealed with silicone. The only hard part was lengthening the coil cable, though I'm told that Garrett can do this for you, for a fee, if...

First gold ring of the year!

With all the recent posting about the GTA 1000, I felt prompted to take my 1000 PM for a walk in the park yesterday. This one wears a 5.5" HotHead "Ferrett" coil pretty much all the time. This is a really good coil for a GTA, by the way. I recommend it highly. After digging a nice pile of...

    Could this be Roman gold?!

Now, try not to laugh because I'm new at this. I bought four, uncleaned "Roman" coins. After cleaning, three of them are clearly copper or some derivative alloy, but this one looks diff. from the rest. Hoping that someone with experience 'tectoring in Europe might be able to enlighten me...
