If they still work, I try to find the owner and return them.
If the provider is shown on the screen, you can take it to the store and the folks there can find out who the owner is… another way is to see if they have any information in the “emergency” mode which can be accessed even if the phone is locked.
I have returned some using both methods.
If they are toast some sell them for scrap.
I have never tried that.
Also…. If a phone is found and will not turn on, that may not mean it is bad… could be a dead battery…. I found one last summer in the river that had been lost about three months prior to when I found it and after charging it, I was able to turn it on and return it.
