APPLE I PHONES

If they still work, I try to find the owner and return them.
If the provider is shown on the screen, you can take it to the store and the folks there can find out who the owner is… another way is to see if they have any information in the “emergency” mode which can be accessed even if the phone is locked.
I have returned some using both methods.
If they are toast some sell them for scrap.
I have never tried that.
Also…. If a phone is found and will not turn on, that may not mean it is bad… could be a dead battery…. I found one last summer in the river that had been lost about three months prior to when I found it and after charging it, I was able to turn it on and return it.

Oh you mean crapple? Same as above
Usually, now they have Find My phone, they will come right to your house. I did that with a pair of EarPods I found at a boat launch. I was trying to find the owner and he called me. He found that I had them by the locator in them.

Yes, I charge and look for Emergency contact info. If all else fails, take it to the nearest police station. All the phones can be tracked now and when an owner sees it is at a police station they are more likely to contact them for its return.

Man that tracking tech is really getting nuts.

Did you ever think you'd willingly carry a personal tracking device ??

Now you're wife always knows where you are.
And we always know where the wife is, lol.

Can you imagine your teenage kids knowing exactly where you are and when you are coming home? Man, it is good that stuff wasn’t around when my high school girlfriend and I were together back then! But seriously, some of that tracking stuff is good. I have silenced Apple AirTags hidden in our vehicles, my ebike, and in my expensive detector and camera cases.

Oh, and I also have an Apple AirTag on my wallet and on my keychain too, and those gnomes haven’t come back ever since then. I think they’re afraid of the tags or something!

What do you guys do with the locked I phones that you find in the water ??
If they have a pass code and I can't return them I sometimes have to damage them in order to get paid from Gazelle or Buy Back World. The last one was a Iphone 17 in perfect condition. I punched a hole in the screen and got $273 from Gazelle. It's a shame but I've learned alot when dealing with Gazelle
